Abstract
The partition comprises vertical bars 1 with openings 4, and horizontal bars 2 with projecting portions 3. These openings 4 comprise an upper portion 5, in which the projecting portion 3 may easily be located, an intermediary portion 6 which the projecting portions 3 may only pass through when they are deformed, and a lower portion 7 which can retain the projecting portions 3 between a dovetail joint at the top and an entire rim at the bottom, this rim engaging recesses 8 in the projecting portions 3. The joint resists in all directions the forces arising during the mounting, the insulating, and the use of the partition. In portion 5, portion 3 may be moved longitudinally or rotated about its longitudinal axis. <IMAGE>
Description
SPECIFICATION
A Partition
The invention relates to a partition substantially comprising vertical bars, preferably section bars, for securing cover plates and horizontal bars, preferably section bars, for stiffening the cover plates between securing points, said horizontal bars being secured to the vertical bars by portions which project at the ends of the horizontal bars and are introduced into respective openings in the vertical bars so as to engage said vertical bars.
Requirements of sound-absorbing capacities for partitions of the above type make it necessary to fill the spacing between the cover plates and the section bars completely with insulating material. Insulating materials are often resilient and consequently the horizontal section bars are often subjected to both upward and downward forces during and after the mounting. The known partitions, cf. e.g. Norwegian published patent application No. 135,482 do not ensure that the horizontal section bars remain in position when subjected to upward forces, and as a result the section bars can turn about their longitudinal axis whereby they cannot stiffen the cover plates at the usually occurring loads as well as maintain a predetermined distance between the vertical section bars.
In order to overcome the above draw-backs, the partition according to the invention is characterised in that the openings in the vertical bars are shaped in such a manner that the upper portion of the openings allows the portions of the horizontal bars to be moved freely in their longitudinal direction and turned about their longitudinal axis, that the intermediary portion of the opening only permits passage of the projecting portions if they are deformed, that the lower portion of the opening is shaped in such a manner that the projecting portions may only be located therein when the rim of the opening is situated in a recess in the projecting portion, and that the horizontal bar is substantially secured against turning about its longitudinal axis.
The upper portion of the opening permits the horizontal bar to be situated without difficulty in a position immediately above its final position. After the locating in the lower portion of the opening, the intermediary portion of the opening prevents the horizontal bar from coming out of position under the action of the upward forces to which it is subjected during filling of the partition with insulating material.
The permanent positioning of the horizontal bar ensures that it fulfils its functions as a spacer between the vertical bars and as stiffening for the cover plates both during and after the mounting of an insulated partition.
Each opening in a vertical bar is preferably shaped in such a manner that a relatively gradual transition between the upper portion and the intermediary portion of the opening is provided, whereby the necessary deformation of the horizontal bar may be obtained in a simple manner by pressing said horizontal bar downwards during the mounting. A steep transition between the lower portion and the intermediary portion of the opening ensures that the horizontal bar, once mounted, is not deformed by a pressure from below.
The invention will now be described in more detail, solely by way of example, with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which: Fig. 1 is a perspective view of a joint between a vertical and a horizontal section bar in a partition embodying the invention, and
Fig. 2 is a perspective partly broken away view of the partition embodying the invention.
A partition embodying the invention is illustrated by Fig. 1 and 2 and substantially comprises vertical section bars 1 with openings 4, and horizontal section bars 2 with projecting portions 3. These openings 4 are specially shaped: they comprise an upper portion 5, in which the projecting portion 3 can easily be located, an intermediary portion which the projecting portions 3 can only pass through when they are deformed, and a lower portion which can retain the projecting portions 3 between a dovetail joint at the top and an entire rim at the bottom, this rim engaging recesses 8 in the projecting portions 3. The joint resists in all directions the forces arising during the mounting, the insulating, and the use of the partition.
A vertical bar, preferably a section bar 1 is illustrated in Fig. 1 and comprises an opening 4 which is shaped in such a manner that the upper portion 5 of the opening permits projecting portions 3 of horizontal bars, preferably section bars 2 to be moved freely in their longitudinal direction and be turned about their longitudinal axis. As a result the horizontal section bars can easily be situated in a position immediately above their final position during the mounting. The intermediary portion 6 of the opening 4 is shaped in such a manner that the projecting portion 3 of the horizontal section bar must be deformed in order to enter the lower portion 7 of the opening 4 during the mounting. The lower portion 7 of the opening 4 is shaped in such a manner that its rim engages a recess 8 in the projecting portion 3 of the horizontal section bar, whereby it is ensured that the horizontal section bar 2 is fixedly connected to the vertical section bar 1. This connection can resist quite heavy forces applied from below because the steep transition between the lower portion 7 of the opening and the intermediary portion 6 of the opening acts as a dovetail joint.
The projecting portions 3 can be manufactured in an inexpensive manner by removing material at the ends of the horizontal section bar 2 so as to leave the projecting portion 3.
Fig. 2 illustrates the partition in which the vertical optionally adjustable section bars 1 and the horizontal section bars 2 appear. Thin wall or cover plates such as for instance plaster plates are located on the outside of the section bars.
Insulating material 12 is then located in the spacing between the plaster plates 11. The horizontal section bars retain their positions even if subjected to pressure forces from the insulating material 12.
Claims (3)

A partition substantially comprising vertical bars for securing cover plates and horizontal bars for stiffening the cover plates between securing points, said horizontal bars being secured to the vertical bars by portions which project at the ends of the horizontal bars and are introduced into respective openings in the vertical bars so as to engage said vertical bars, characterised in that the openings in the vertical bars are shaped in such a manner that the upper portion of the openings allows the portions of the horizontal section bars to be moved freely in their longitudinal direction and turned about their longitudinal axis, that the intermediary portion of the opening only permits passage of the projecting portions if they are deformed, that the lower portion of the opening is shaped in such a manner that the projecting portions may only be located therein when the rim of the opening is situated in a recess in the projecting portion, and that the horizontal section bar is substantially secured against turning about its longitudinal axis.
2. A partition as claimed in claim 1, wherein the intermediary portion of the opening comprises a relatively gradual transition to the upper portion of the opening and a steep transition to the lower portion of the opening.
3. A partition substantially as described hereinbefore with reference to the accompanying drawings.
