Abstract
An electric motor, such as a car windscreen motor, which is powered by a battery provides the primary drive. The motor output shaft is connected via a crank to push rods (8) which are guided to provide a reciprocal linear motion. To provide variable speed two arms (13) which are held between pivots (9 and 9A) and driven by the push rod (8) have a number of holes in them to accommodate a further pivot (12). From this pivot point a rod (1) extends out to be connected to the axle of the pram (15) by a latch. The motor, battery and switch are all contained in a case (4) with its own carrying handle (10). The drive unit is further enclosed by a guard (11). <IMAGE>
Description
SPECIFICATION
Baby rocker
The invention relates to a "Baby Rocker" (that is:- a machine that moves a perambu- lator or similar baby carriage, in which the baby lies, to and fro).
The invention is designed to save work and time in the care of babies and infants for their parents or childminder.
Figure 1 is an exposed view of the baby rocker, showing a 1 2 volt electrical motor, 1, (such as a motor car's windscreen wiper motor) to which a crank drive 2 is attached.
Bolted to the crank is a tubular conrod, 3, which gives the machine the piston movement. Attached to the other end of the conrod is a knuckle, 4, which connects the conrod to a vertical rod, 5, which in turn connects by means of a second knuckle, 6, to the machine housing. One end of the push rod, 7, is connected to either one of two holes drilled in the vertical rod by means of a bolt. One of the holes is in the upper part of the vertical rod while the second hole is in the lower part. The height of the point of connection between push rod and vertical rod dictates the length of the movement of the push rod, giving the choice of a long stroke (top hole) or a short stroke (bottom holes). Other holes may be drilled to achieve the required stroke.
The 1 2 volt electrical motor is powered either by a mains transformer or a 1 2 volt battery. A two way "on/off" switch is placed in the elctrical circuit between the power source and the motor.
Figure 2 shows the other end of the push rod which is shaped to form the lock latch which fits onto the perambulator axle. The inside of the lock latch is covered by an insulating mterial to prevent any electrical current to pass from the baby rocker to the baby carriage.
Figure 3 is a top elevation of the invention.
Figure 4 illustrates the baby rocker, connected to a perambulator.
The housing is of plastic, fibreglass and/or wood and has handies fitted for easy carriage.
The combined weight of the housing and the other parts of the machine described above must be such that the baby rocker moves the perambulator, not vice versa. To this end the housing has space to contain additional ballast.
A machine and its function as described above.
A portable rocking machine devised for soothing a baby to sleep whilst in a perambulator.
The mechanism produces backward and forward motion when attached to the front or rear axle of the perambulator thereby pacifying the baby, and matching the natural rocking motion of the mother.
