Abstract

208,506. Svenska Ackumulator Aktiebolaget Jungner. Dec. 12, 1922, [Convention date]. Void [Published under Sect. 91 of the Act]. Cases.-A number of storage battery cells 1 particularly of the alkaline type having conducting containers are insulated from one another by being mounted in a wood &c. frame 5, 4, insulating partitions 2 between the cells being embedded at their ends in sealing material 6 closing the top and bottom ends of the frame. Each cell is suspended on insulators 3 fitting into the walls 4 of the frame 5. The partitions 2 may be formed from a single sheet of material bent into zig-zag form, or each cell may be partly or wholly surrounded by a separate sheet which may be wound round the cell. In an alternative construction each cell is surrounded by a compound which is moulded on to the cell. The connectors 7 between the cells are embedded in the sealing material 6. The battery is assembled by standing the frame on one of its ends 5, the opposite end being open. The insulating sheet 2 and the first cell 1 are then placed in position. The sheet is then bent round the edges of the cell and the second cell placed in position and the process repeated. When the last cell is in place the other end 5 of the frame is secured in position and the whole turned upside down and insulating composition poured over the bottom of the cells. When this has set the battery is placed in the upright position, the connections 7 fixed and the composition poured over the top of the cells, the filling and vent plugs projecting through the seal. An additional bottom may be fixed to the underside of the frame and the top protected by a lid.
