Abstract
208,338. Burman & Sons, Ltd., and Briggs, T. H. Nov. 16, 1922. Securing together machine elements for the transmission of rotary motion.-In power-transmitting mechanism for motor-cycles &c., of the type in which a driving or driven member has rubber cushioning-discs engaged by bolts or circular projections on a coaxial driven or driving member, these bolts &c. engage the centres of the discs through elliptical or like elongated pressure-distributing members. Lateral recesses are preferably formed in enclosing-members at one or each end of the discs to allow expansion thereof. A chain-wheel a is secured to a clutch member c by bolts h, which traverse rubber cushions d fitted in circular apertures b.. Annular recesses f are formed in cover plates e, and similar recesses may be provided in the web of the part c. The thrust is transmitted by elliptical, lozenge-shaped, or other radiallyelongated members g carried by the bolts h, which are preferably eccentric to the discs d in order to give a greater thickness of rubber on the side normally in compression.
