Bore-hole apparatus and processes.-In well-boring, jammed pipe columns are released by simultaneously applying continuous downward pressure and percussion; a space is first formed below the column, and, further, the column may be filled with liquid such as crude oil or a suspension of clay in water. Pressure is applied by hydraulic jacks 29 bearing against joists 40 carried by the derrick platform 21, the jacks being carried by beams 34, 35 bolted to a tube 10 secured to the column 8 to be released; the beams may be replaced by a dog secured to the pipe 10 by wedges. Links 38 may connect the beams 34, 35 to the top of the tube 10. Percussion is applied by a collar 20 fixed to a drill rod connected to a cable 16. Spring buffers 33 support the released column bv engaging a collar 14.
