208,047. Imray, O. Y., (Timken Detroit Axle Co.). Feb. 6, 1923. Balance gearing for vehicles comprises a planet-supporting spider 24 the arm ends of which engage directly in slidways 26 in a driving gear ring 14. The spider 24 can slide laterally with respect' to the ring 14, and the side gears 21 of the differential are splined on the axle parts 7 for the same purpose. The slideways 26 are made longer by projecting lugs 27. The gear casing comprises duplicate hemispherical shells 11 with flanges 12 secured to the gear 14 by rivets 15, which do not take the driving stress. The flanges 12 limit the possible movement of the spider, and the shell parts support the gear train.
