Abstract

208,041. Hamilton, J. Jan. 24, 1923. Automatic gear.-A modification of the apparatus described in Specification 10804/01 for controlling the throttle-valve of a marine engine by means of a piston exposed to the suction in a pipe opening below sea level and operating a switch which indirectly controls an electromagnet operating the distributing valve of a relay cylinder for operating the throttle valve, consists in putting the electromagnet under the direct control of the switch. The piston 14, Fig. 1, which is exposed to the water pressure, opens and closes a switch 13 and so breaks or completes the circuit of a battery 12 through an electromagnet 11, Figs. 1 and 2. The latter, when energized, attracts an armature 10 on the valve spindle 3 against the action of a spring 15 and so opens the port 9 of the relay cylinder 1 to atmosphere and connects the port 5 to the condenser. When the circuit is broken, the port 7 is connected to the condenser and the port 8 to the atmosphere as shown.
