Abstract
The present invention relates to a circular knitting machine, particularly for manufacturing hosiery and similar goods by means of needles and knock over sinkers, in which the loop size is controlled by the adjustment of needles and knock over sinkers. The disadvantages of the hitherto known arrangements, which cause undesirable tensioning of the yarn being processed, which sometimes might result even in yarn breakage, are mitigated by the present invention, of which the subject matter consists in that means are provided for the simultaneous adjustment of the mutual position of needles and knock over sinkers for the purpose of forming the loop length. <IMAGE>
Description
SPECIFICATION
Circular Knitting Machine, Particularly for
Manufacturing Hosiery and Similar Goods
The present invention relates to a circular knitting machine, particularly for manufacturing hosiery goods and similar, by means of needles and knock over sinkers, in which the loop size is controlled by adjusting needles and knock over sinkers.
Hosiery knitting machines are known, in which the device for changing density uses the needle cylinder lift in vertical direction. In those machines, the yarn being drawn by needles is retracted below the knock over plane, which is formed by the knock over sinker nibs. Increasing the density of stitches in the knitwork is secured by the downward motion of the needle cylinder, while lowering is performed by the upward motion. During this activity, an undesired tension is encountered in the processed yarn, which might result sometimes in yarn breakage. A further disadvantage of this arrangement consists in a rather complicated mounting of the needle cylinder, which has to perform, beside rotary motion, a further motion in vertical direction.
The purpose of the present invention consists in mitigating the above disadvantages.
According to the invention there is provided a circular knitting machine, particularly for manufacturing hosiery and similar goods, by means of needles and knock over sinkers, in which the loop size is controlled by adjustment of both the needles and the knock over sinkers, and comprising means for the simultaneous adjustment of the mutual position of needles and knock over sinkers for the purpose of forming the loop length.
An embodiment of the present invention will now be described, by way of example, with reference to the accompanying drawing, in which: Fig. lisa partial axial section of the needle cylinder with the disposition of both thesinker cam and the sinkers together with their control system; and
Fig. 2 is a plan view of the sinker cam for controlling the knock over sinkers.
A one cylinder circular knitting machine for manufacturing hosiery and similar goods, is provided with a needle cylinder 1, in the longitudinal tricks 2 of which are needles 3 and below them selectors 4. In each feed, a needle stitch cam 5 and a needle trough 6, as well as further cams (not shown) are arranged. Both the needle stitch cam 5 and the needle trough 6 are fixed to a carrier 7, which is mounted axially displaceably on the cylinder cambox 8.
Furthermore, in the radial grooves of the outside sinker ring 9 and the inside sinker ring 10 are mounted knock over sinkers 1 which are encircled by a circular spring 110 both said sinker rings 9 and 10 being fixed to needle cylinder 1.
For the purpose of controlling knock over sinkers 1 sinker cam 12 with path 12' (Fig. 2) is intended for the butts 11' of knock over sinkers 1 The sinker cam 12 is mounted radially displaceably in the stand 13 mounted on the machine flange 14.
For the purpose of controlling the needle stitch cam 5 and the sinker cam 12, a three arm lever 1 5 is provided, which is mounted pivotally on pivot 15' in stand 13. The groove of arm 1 spa of three arm lever 1 5 is engaged by pin 120 of sinker cam 12. The groove of arm 1 sub is engaged by pin 71 of carrier 7. The third arm 1 sic is acted upon by one end of adjusting screw 16, said arm 1 5c, or three arm levers 1 5 being spring-mounted by tension spring 17, mounted to flange 14. The adjustment screw 1 6 is controlled by nut 1 8 mounted in flange 14. Nut 1 8 is controlled by a transmission (not represented) from the control drum of the machine.
The device specified above operates as follows:
Upon changing the loop length during knitting, a pulse for turning nut 1 8 is given from the control drum. Upon increasing the density of stitches, nut 18 is turned in such manner as to lower adjustment screw 1 6. By influence of the pull of spring 17, three arm lever 1 5 is turned in the anticlockwise direction. Arm 1 sub lifts carrier 7 by acting upon pin 71 and thus also the needle stitch cam 5, and the needle trough 6.
Consequently the needle drawing is diminished and shorter loops are formed. However, arm 1 spa displaces simultaneously the sinker cam from needle cylinder 1 by acting upon pin 120 the knock over sinkers 11 tensioning the loops of the yarn to be drawn to a smaller extent, in accordance with a diminished drawing of needles 3.
Upon lowering the density of stitches nut 1 8 is turned in the opposite direction, relative to increasing the density of stitches, the adjustment screw 16 thus being lifted and turning three arm lever 1 5 in the clockwise direction. Consequently arm 1 sub lowers the needle stitch cam 5 and displaces the sinker cam 12 towards the needle cylinder 1, thus forming larger loops in the knitwork.
By the simultaneous control of needles and knock over sinkers as specified above, undesirable tension in the needle loops and sinker loops of the loops to be built is removed by the changes in both loops being performed simultaneously, the loop forming thus being improved. Furthermore, it is possible to cover by the device according to the present invention a larger density range of the stitches in the knitwork. The device according to the present invention can vary in its construction in various manners, e.g. both the needle stitch cam and the sinker cam can be controlled by means of electromagnets from an electronic programming device or similar, etc. It is important, that the control means for the mutual adjustment of both the needle stitch cam and the sinker cam operate simultaneously. A further advantage consists in that the machine is simplified in its construction, as no displacement of the needle cylinder or the sinker ring is necessary. Furthermore, it is possible to use short needles in the cam system, etc.
