Abstract

A set of parts for use in mounting a fascia panel 8 of a sign and a panel mounting arrangement are disclosed. First members 3 are fixed to a support 1 to provide a frame. The panel 8 has a projection 7 received in an opening 6 in the uppermost first member 3 to hang from that member and overlap the further first members. To each of the first members, there is fitted by snap- action a respective second member 10 to retain the panel with its projection received in the opening in the uppermost first member. <IMAGE>

Description

SPECIFICATION Panel mountings This invention relates to panel mountings.
According to this invention from one aspect, there is provided a set of parts for use in mounting a panel, the set comprising a first member which can be fixed to a support and having an opening for receiving in use a projection on a panel, and a second member which can be fitted in use to the first member by snap-action to retain a panel having a projection received by the said opening.
According to this invention from another aspect, there is provided a panel mounting arrangement comprising a first member fixed to a support, a panel having a projection, the projection being received in an opening in the said first member, and a second member fitted by snap-action to the first member and retaining the said panel with its projection received by the said opening.
Preferably, each of the first and second members is of plastics material, for example polyvinyl chloride.
The snap-action fitting of the second member to the first member could be via a projection on the second member and a co-operating, second opening in the first member.
The present invention will now be described, by way of example with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which: Figures 1 and 2 are cross-sections through an upper part and a lower part of a panel mounting arrangement; and Figure 3 is a view from the rear of part of the arrangement.
Screwed to an upright support 1, for example a wall, by screws 2 are four strips 3 which form a rectangular frame. Each of the strips 3 is a length of extruded polyvinyl chloride plastics material, the strips being mitred at their corners and held together at their corners by polyvinyl chloride corner pieces 4 received at the corners in grooves 5 in the strips 3.
Each of the strips 3 also has an opening 6 running lengthwise and the opening 6 of the upper strip 3 receives a projection 7 on a panel 8 so that the panel 8 hangs from the upper strip 3. The panel 8 may be a fascia panel, for example a Perspex (Trade Mark) fascia panel in the form of a sign.
Each strip 3 has a further lengthwise opening 9 and an extruded polyvinyl chloride retaining strip 10 is fitted to each strip 3 as a result of snap-action of a lengthwise projection 11 of the strip 10 into the respective opening 9, the strips 10 being mitred at their corners.
The upper strip 10 serves to retain the projection 7 of the panel 8 in the opening 6 of the upper strip 3 and the side and lower retaining strips 10 overlap the sides and bottom of the panel 8, the latter being mounted and retained in a manner which permits contraction and expansion thereof.
The above-described arrangement is installed by screwing the mitred strips 3 with their corner pieces 4 to the support 1; hanging the panel 8 from the upper strip 3 with its projection 7 received in the opening 6 of the upper strip 3; and fitting by snap-action the retaining strips 10 to the strips 3.
It will be noted that in each strip 3, the lengthwise opening 9 has two pairs of lengthwise grooves, into one or other pair of which co-operating lengthwise protrusions on the respective projection 11 fit by snap-action to achieve the snap-action fitting of the projection 11 into the opening 9. Because of this and the flexibility of the strips 10, a panel 8 of a thickness of 3mm, 5mm or 6mm can be accommodated.
1. A set of parts for use in mounting a panel, the set comprising a first member which can be fixed to a support and having an opening for receiving in use a projection on a panel, and a second member which can be fitted in use to the first member by snapaction to retain a panel having a projection received by the said opening.
2. A panel mounting arrangement comprising a first member fixed to a support, a panel having a projection, the projection being received in an opening in the said first member, and a second member fitted by snap-action to the first member and retaining the said panel with its projection received by the said opening.
3. A set of parts according to claim 1 or an arrangement according to claim 2, wherein each of the first and second members is of plastics material.
4. A set of parts according to claim 1 or 3 or an arrangement according to claim 2 or 3, wherein the snap-action fitting of the second member to the first member is via a projection on the second member and a co-operating, second opening in the first member.
5. An arrangement according to any of claims 2 to 4, wherein there is a plurality of further members fixed to the support to provide with the first member a frame, the panel hanging from the first member and overlapping the further members, to each of which is fitted by snap-action a respective further such second member to overlap and further retain the panel.
6. A set of parts for use in mounting a panel, or a panel mounting arrangement, substantially as here in described with reference to the accompanying drawings.
