Abstract

207,722. Cosby, E. L. H. Jan. 17, 1923. Rod couplings. - Screwed spigot and socket joints of drills for boring oil, gas and other wells are locked by means of a set-screw which mounted in the socket engages the spigot so as to prevent relative rotation of the two members. Fig. 3 shows a section of the locked joint in which the set-screw a<1> engages an angular notch in the end of the spigot b<1>. The recess above the head of the setscrew mav be filled with Babbit metal. In modifications, more than one set-screw may be employed, and the set-screw may be replaced by a spring-pressed pin or other equivalent means.
