Abstract

A device for localized dyeing or other surface treatment of an assembly of thread-like material, comprising a base or backing plate 10 and a closure plate 11 operatively engageable with the base plate, wherein the base plate has slide guide means to receive the closure plate and wherein said closure plate has openings having the same outline 18 as the desired pattern of treatment. When used for applying patterns to human hair, the hair is led between the plates, and the treatment liquid 6 applied by brushing or spraying. <IMAGE>

Description

SPECIFICATION A device for localized treatment of a beam of thread-like material in particular for decoloration of hair This invention relates to a device for localized surface treatment such as decoration, dyeing, decolorization and like of beams of thread-like material. In its most evident exploitation, this invention relates to a device to apply decorations to hair and it will be disclosed by way of example in this particular application thereof.

As it is known, noticeable difficulties are to be met when localized areas of beams of thread-like materials are to be surface treated, in particular when such areas only represent a small portion of the whole beam. A particular example of this application is the application of the so-called "sunspots" on hair requiring tedious and time consuming preparation steps that do not guarantee the obtainment of satisfactory results.

It is the main object of this invention therefore to provide a simply constructed and very easily used device to effect localized surface treatments on small portions of thread-like material beams.

It is a more particular object of this invention to provide a device adapted to apply localized dyeing and patterns or other decorative effects on hair.

Summary The above mentioned objects are obtained in this invention by means of a device comprising a base or backing plate and a closure and decoration plate. The base plate has slide guide means which enable the closure plate to be engaged therein.

The closure plate has cut out openings having the same shape as the decoration to be obtained on the thread-like material beam.

in the preferred embodiment of this invention, the slide guide means in the base plate are side longitudinal grooves obtained by inwardly Uturning the longitudinal edges of the plate.

In a different embodiment of this invention, the closure plate has a plurality of openings cut out with different outlines so as to apply mixed decorations on the thread-like material beam.

Brief Description of the Drawings Further objects and advantages of the invention will be apparent to those skilled in the art from the following detailed description, taken in conjunction with the annexed sheet of drawings on which the preferred embodiments of the invention are shown.

In the drawings: Figure 1, consisting of Figures 1 A and 1 B, shows the base plate and the closure and decoration plate, respectively, forming the device of the invention; Figure 2 shows the mode of use of the device to obtain a decoration effect on hair; Figure 3 shows a spray operation made to obtain the decoration effect on a beam of threadlike material; Figure 4 shows a different brush operation made to obtain the decoration effect on a beam of thread-like material; Figure 5 shows different embodiments of the device of this invention to apply mixed decorations on hair.

Detailed Description of the Invention The device of this invention is detailedly shown in Figure 1. The device comprises a base plate 10 and a closure or decoration plate 11.

In this operative condition, which is reached as it is shown on Figure 2, the two plates 10 and 11 cooperate with each other to hold a beam of thread-like material, in particular hair, on which the required localized surface treatment is to be effected, such as decorations of various shapes and patterns.

To this effect, the base plate has side longitudinal slide guide grooves 12 and 13, obtained by inwardly U-turning the side longitudinal edges 14 and 1 5 of the plate.

The closure and decoration plate 11, having a shape corresponding to the base plate 10, is so sized to be engaged and to slide with its side longitudinal edges 1 6 and 17 in the guide grooves 12 and 13, respectively, of the base plate.

Openings are cut out in the closure and decoration plate 11; in particular in the embodiment of Figure 1 B the outline of a dove 18, having the shape of the surface treatment to be effected.

Figures 2, 3 and 4 show the way of use of the device. In particular, as it is shown on Figure 2, a beam of thread-like material, in this case hair is picked up and laid upon the base plate 10; then the device is closed by sliding the closure plate 11 in the guide grooves 12 and 13 provided in the base plate 10.

Upon closing the device, the decoration is performed or any surface treatment is effected on the thread-like material beam 19, for instance by spraying, as in Figure 3, or by brushing, as in Figure 4.

Figure 5 shows the employment of different embodiments of the device, wherein the closure plates 11' and 11" have openings in different numbers and in different outlines, to obtain mixed decorations.

Having described the preferred embodiments of the invention, it should be now evident that other embodiments incorporating these concepts may be used. Thus, it is obvious that the plates can be made of metal or plastics or any other suitable material; the thread-like material to be treated can be hair, wool, yarns, cables, wires, and like; and the surface treatment can be dyeing, impermeabilization, decoration, decolorization and like. It should, therefore, be clearly understood that the details of such embodiments are set forth by way of example only and that those skilled in the art can make various changes in the form and in the details thereof without departing from the spirit and from the scope of the invention as defined by the appended claims.

Claims

1. A Device for localized-treatment of beams of thread-like material comprising a base or backing plate (10) and a closure plate (1 1 ) operatively engageable with the base plate (10), wherein the base plate (10) has slide guide means for receiving the closure plate 1) and the closure plate (11) has openings (18) having the shape of the surface treatment to be effected on the thread-like material beam (19).

2. A Device according to claim 1, wherein said slide guide means are side longitudinal grooves (12, 1 3) obtained by inwardly U-turning the side longitudinal edges (14,15) of the base plate (10).

3. A Device according to claim 1, wherein said surface treatment is a dyeing or decolorization treatment and said thread-like material is hair.
