Abstract

An inner bag (2) of a plastics foil is surrounded by an outer bag (1) of woven material. The edge regions (3,4) of the open ends of the inner bag and/or the outer bag are coated with a hotmelt adhesive and are firmly connected with one another by heat and pressure applied by means (5,6). <IMAGE>

Description

SPECIFICATION Method for producing bag-shaped packaging material, in particular for hygroscopic loose goods The present invention concerns a method for producing bag-shaped packaging material, in particular for hygroscopic loose goods such as fertilizers, wherein a moisture impervious inner bag made of a plastisfoil is surrounded by an outer bag made of a woven material.
It is known to introduce an inner bag made of a moisture impervious material, such as a blown polyethylene foil, into a woven bag, so as to extend to hygroscopic loose goods the advantages inherent to packaging into woven bags.
Certain disadvantages are inherent, however, in the handling of two-bag arrangements of this kind.
One essential disadvantage consists in that when loading the two-bag arrangement the inner bag may slip into the outer bag, or it may fold, or the edge of the open end of the inner bag may break and allow the loose goods penetrate between the outer bag and the inner bag. An additional disadvantage consists in that as a rule the two bags must be opened and closed independently of one another.
It is thus an object of the present invention to take measures for eliminating the afore-mentioned disadvantages.
This object is achieved by way of the method according to the invention by coating the edge regions of the open ends of said inner and outer bags with a hotmelt adhesive before joining the bags together, and subjecting said edges of the two bags to heat and pressure pressing after joining the bags together, so as to yield a firm connection therebetween.
The present invention equally concerns a two-bag arrangement comprising an inner bag made of a plastic foil and an outer bag made of a woven material, said arrangement being produced in accordance with the aforesaid method and having as invsentional characteristics that the inner bag and the outer bag are adheringly joined together at least along sections of the edges of their open ends.
The present invention further concerns apparatus for carrying out the afore-mentioned method, said apparatus being characterised in that means are provided for applying under pressure a melted adhesive between the edge regions of the open ends of an outer woven bag and an inner plastic bag.
By applying these measures it is now possible to produce a two-bag arrangement in a simple and rational manner which, when loaded closed or opened behaves like a single-walled bag and avoids all of the disadvantages of the hitherto known two-bag arrangements.
An exemplary embodiment of the invention is now explained with reference to the drawing, in which Figure 1 shows a partially exploded pictorial view of the two-bag arrangement according to the invention, and Figure 2 shows a pictorial view of a cutaway portion of the apparatus for producing the two-bag arrangement according to the invention.
The inventional two-bag arrangement shown in Figure 1 comprises an outer bag 1 and an inner bag 2.
The outer bag 1 is preferably a woven bag made of jute, or a fabric of ribbons, or a plastic fabric, or the like.
The inner bag 2 consists of a blown plastic foil or the like, preferably of polyethylene, for example.
The edge 3 of the open end of the inner bag 2, and if necessary, the corresponding edge of the outer bag 1, is at least partially coated with a hotmelt adhesive on the outside and/orthe inside, respectively. These coated surface areas are identified in Figure 2 by the reference numeral 4.
The edge regions of the open ends of the two bags 1 and 2 are then subjected in a joined-together state to a heat and pressure pressing process, so as to produce a melting of the adhesive and thus a practically inseperable connection between the bags along the edges of their open ends.
Figure 2 shows the apparatus suited for the purpose and comprising in this case two revolving heated pressure cylinder 5 and 6.
A series of changes are evidently possible within the scope of the present invention. Thus, for example, both the outer edge of the inner bag as well as or only the inner edge of the outer bag may be coated with a hotmelt adhesive. Furthermore, the apparatus intended for melting the adhesive while applying it under pressure between the edge regions of the open ends of the outer woven bag and the inner plastic bag may have a different construction and may comprise stationary heated pressure elements, for example The above clearly indicates that the described method is suited for furnishing a very reliable connection between the inner bag and the outer bag, thus providing a two-bag arrangement behaving like a single bag.
1. Method for producing bag-shaped packaging material, in particular for hygroscopic loose goods such as fertilizers, wherein a moisture impervious inner bag made of plastic foil is surrounded by an outer bag made of a woven material, characterised in that before joining the bags together the edge regions of the open ends of said inner and outer bags are coated with a hotmelt adhesive, and after joining the bags together said edges of the two bags are subjected to heat and pressured pressing, so as to yield a firm connection therebetween.

Two-bag arrangement comprising an inner bag made of plastic foil and an outer bag made of a woven material and produced in accordance with the method of claim 1, characterised in that the inner bag (2) and the outer bag (1) are adheringly joined together at least along sections (4) of the edges (3) of their open ends.
