Abstract

An edge-runner mill has a grinding table (1) for rotation about a vertical axis (2) and at least one separately suspended roller (5). The roller is suspended on one end of a rocker arm (6), the other end of the arm being connected to a device (9) for urging the roller (5) against the grinding table (1). The rocker arm is pivotally mounted for movement relative to the grinding table in a vertical plane which includes the axis of rotation (2) of the grinding table, the pivot being mounted in a holder mechanism (14) which is mounted for parallel displacement in the vertical plane which includes the axis of rotation of the grinding table. <IMAGE>

Description

SPECIFICATION Roller suspension in a vertical roller mill The invention relates to a roller suspension in a vertical roller mill having a grinding table which rotates about a vertical axis and at least one separately suspended roller.
It is known for the suspension to comprise 'a rocker arm with the roller being pivotally mounted at one end of the arm, and the other end of the arm being connected with a device for pressing the roller against the grinding table. The rocker arm is mounted in a way allowing it to rock in relation to the grinding table in a vertical plane which includes the axis of rotation of the grinding table.
Suspensions of the above kind are provided to enable the roller, by the pivoting motion of the rocker arm, to adjust itself according to the variation in circular direction of the thickness of the layer of the material to be ground on the grinding table and to be forced against the grinding table with the desired force.
However, as the movement of the roller in relation to the grinding path of the grinding table is simply an angular movement due to the pivoting motion of the rocker arm, and as the thickness of the layer may also vary in the radial direction, a relatively limited contact is often obtained in the radial direction of the grinding path, between the roller and the material layer.
It is an object of the invention to improve the contact between the roller and the material layer in the radial direction.
According to the invention the rocker arm is pivotally mounted in a holder mechanism which in turn is mounted for parallel displacement of the roller in the vertical plane which includes the axis of rotation of the grinding table.
By means of such a suspension an optimum contact zone between the grinding roller and material to be ground is obtained, the grinding surface of the grinding roller being capable of combined rocking and parallel displacement on the grinding table in relation to the material layer, which ensures the optimum contact in the radial direction of the grinding table.
Two examples of a roller suspension according to the invention, will now be described with reference to the accompanying diagrammatic drawings in which: Figure 1 shows a vertical section through part of a first vertical roller mill with a suspension according to the invention.
Figure 2 shows the suspension seen from the left in Fig. 1.
Figure 3 shows a vertical section through part of a second roller mill; Figure 4 is a view from the left of Fig. 3.
A grinding table 1 is supported for rotation about a vertical axis 2, being supported and driven by a unit 3. A roller 5 rolls on the grinding path 4 of the grinding table 1, the roller being pivotally mounted at the upper end of a rocker arm 6. The other or lower end or the rocker arm 6 is linked via a pin 7 (as shown in Fig. 1) to a draw bar 8 for activation by a hydraulic cylinder 9 pivotally mounted in a bracket 10 on the mill foundation. The cylinder 9 and the draw bar 8 activate the roller 5 via the rocker arm 6, thus pressing the roller 5 down against the layer of material on the grinding path 4.
The suspension of the roller 5 has means allowing the roller 5 both to rock in relation to the grinding path 4 and to be displaced in a direction substantially parallel to the direction of the grinding pressure. Thus the roller 5 is capable of adjusting itself according to the profile and thickness of the material layer on the grinding table in such a way that optimum contact between roller and material layer is ensured.
In the example shown in Figs. 1 and 2, the rocker arm 6 is further supported by a movable bracket mechanism 11-15 mounted on a wall 10' of the mill housing. A bracket 11 has two flanges 1 2 each supporting a stub shaft 1 3 around which one end of a respective one of two links 14 may pivot. The other ends of the two links 14 are pivotally connected by a common shaft 1 5 to the rocker arm 6.
The rocker arm 6 thus achieves its rocking movement about the axis of the shaft 15, and its parallel displacement by means of the pivoting of the links 14 around the shafts 1 3 and the shaft 15.
A draw or push bar 16 is provided for absorption to tangential forces on the roller 5, the bar 1 6 being pivotally connected to the rocker arm 6 at one end and at the other end pivotally connected to the mill housing.
Figs. 3 and 4 show another example of the mounting of the rocker arm 6 on the mill housing.
A rocker shaft 15' of the rocker arm 6 is pivotally mounted in a pair of slides 17, which can slide substantially parallel to the direction of the grinding force in a pair of guideways 1 8 provided in a bracket 1 9 on the mill housing 10'.
The lower end of the rocker arm 6 is supported as in the first example, through a pin 7, and draw bar and cylinder (not shown).

SPECIFICATION Roller suspension in a vertical roller mill The invention relates to a roller suspension in a vertical roller mill having a grinding table which rotates about a vertical axis and at least one separately suspended roller. It is known for the suspension to comprise 'a rocker arm with the roller being pivotally mounted at one end of the arm, and the other end of the arm being connected with a device for pressing the roller against the grinding table. The rocker arm is mounted in a way allowing it to rock in relation to the grinding table in a vertical plane which includes the axis of rotation of the grinding table. Suspensions of the above kind are provided to enable the roller, by the pivoting motion of the rocker arm, to adjust itself according to the variation in circular direction of the thickness of the layer of the material to be ground on the grinding table and to be forced against the grinding table with the desired force. Figure 2 shows the suspension seen from the left in Fig. 1. Figure 3 shows a vertical section through part of a second roller mill; Figure 4 is a view from the left of Fig. 3. A grinding table 1 is supported for rotation about a vertical axis 2, being supported and driven by a unit 3. A roller 5 rolls on the grinding path 4 of the grinding table 1, the roller being pivotally mounted at the upper end of a rocker arm 6. The other or lower end or the rocker arm 6 is linked via a pin 7 (as shown in Fig. 1) to a draw bar 8 for activation by a hydraulic cylinder 9 pivotally mounted in a bracket 10 on the mill foundation. The cylinder 9 and the draw bar 8 activate the roller 5 via the rocker arm 6, thus pressing the roller 5 down against the layer of material on the grinding path 4. The suspension of the roller 5 has means allowing the roller 5 both to rock in relation to the grinding path 4 and to be displaced in a direction substantially parallel to the direction of the grinding pressure. Thus the roller 5 is capable of adjusting itself according to the profile and thickness of the material layer on the grinding table in such a way that optimum contact between roller and material layer is ensured. In the example shown in Figs. 1 and 2, the rocker arm 6 is further supported by a movable bracket mechanism 11-15 mounted on a wall 10' of the mill housing. A bracket 11 has two flanges 1 2 each supporting a stub shaft 1 3 around which one end of a respective one of two links 14 may pivot. The other ends of the two links 14 are pivotally connected by a common shaft 1 5 to the rocker arm 6. The rocker arm 6 thus achieves its rocking movement about the axis of the shaft 15, and its parallel displacement by means of the pivoting of the links 14 around the shafts 1 3 and the shaft 15. A draw or push bar 16 is provided for absorption to tangential forces on the roller 5, the bar 1 6 being pivotally connected to the rocker arm 6 at one end and at the other end pivotally connected to the mill housing. Figs. 3 and 4 show another example of the mounting of the rocker arm 6 on the mill housing. A rocker shaft 15' of the rocker arm 6 is pivotally mounted in a pair of slides 17, which can slide substantially parallel to the direction of the grinding force in a pair of guideways 1 8 provided in a bracket 1 9 on the mill housing 10'. The lower end of the rocker arm 6 is supported as in the first example, through a pin 7, and draw bar and cylinder (not shown). CLAIMS
1. A vertical roller mill having a grinding table for rotation about a vertical axis and at least one separately suspended roller, the roller being suspended on one end of a rocker arm, and the other end of the arm being connected to a device for urging the roller against the grinding table, the rocker arm being pivotally mounted for movement relative to the grinding table in a vertical plane which includes the axis of rotation of the grinding table, characterized in that the rocker arm is pivotally mounted in a holder mechanism which is mounted for parallel displacement of the roller in the said vertical plane.
2. A roller mill according to claim 1, characterized in that the holder mechanism comprises a link, a central section of the rocker arm being pivotally mounted on one end of the link, the other end being pivotally mounted in a stationary bracket.
3. A roller mill according to claim 1, characterized in that the holder mechanism comprises a slide on which a central section of the rocker arm is pivotally mounted the slide being movably mounted in a stationary bracket.
4. A roller mill according to claim 3, characterised in that the stationary bracket has guideways for the slide.
5. A roller mill according to claim 1, substantially as described with reference to either of the examples shown in the accompanying drawings.
