Abstract

A teeth-brushing tool which comprises a moderately flexible teeth-brushing and nibbling member (1) comprising a flat panel (2) of approximately the arrangement of teeth in outline provided in the central part thereof with a nipple (4) and on both sides thereof around the nipple (4) with a great number of protuberances (3) and a deglutition-preventing member (5) fixed at the root of the nipple. This teeth-brushing tool is admirably adapted for infants and patients or handicapped persons having trouble in dexterity. <IMAGE>

Description

SPECIFICATION Teeth-brushing tool The present invention relates to a "non-grip" teeth-bushing tool which is quite different in structure from conventional teeth-brushes and is suited for the purpose of teeth-brushing and teeth-firming especially for infants and patients or handicapped persons having trouble in the hand.
The use of a conventional teeth-brushing with a "grip" is often difficult for infants generally inferior in control of movement because the use of such teeth-brush requires a skilled technique and accompanies danger in some cases. Thus, a conventional teeth-brush is used by infants under supervision or with assistance of adults such as infants' mothers.
On the other hand, patients or handicapped persons having trouble in the hand cannot use such conventional teeth-brush by themselves. Thus, there is a great demand for developing a new type teeth-brush which can be used by infants and all the persons having trouble in the hand without accompanying any danger.
In accordance with the present invention there is provided a teeth-brushing tool which comprises a moderately flexible teeth-brushing and nibbling member comprising a flat panel of approximately dentition in outline provided in the central part thereof with a nipple and on both sides thereof around the nipple with a great number of protuberances and a deglutition-preventing member fixed at the root of the nipple.
It is a prime object of the present invention to provide a teeth-brushing tool which can be used, without holding by hand, by infants inferior in control of movement and patients or handicapped presons having trouble in the hand.
It is another object of the present invention to provide a teeth-brushing tool which is excellent in safety and easy for handling.
Other and further objects, features and advantages of the present invention will appear more fully from the following description with reference to the accompanying drawings.
Fig. 1 is a front view showing one example of the teeth-brushing tool of the present invention.
Fig. 2 is a side view showing the teeth-brushing tool of the Fig. 1.
Fig. 3 is a longitudinal cross section showing the teeth brushing tool of Fig. 1 cut along the line Ill-Ill.
The present invention can more fully be understood from the following description taken in conjunction with the accompanying drawings. In Figs.
1-3, the teeth-brushing and nibbling member (referred to hereinafter simply as the teeth-brushing member) 1 has a size easily being inserted into mouth of the user and comprises a flat panel 2 of approximately arrangement of teeth in outline provided on both sides thereof with protuberances 3 and in the central part with a hollow nipple 4. A deglutition-preventing member 5 is fixed to the root 4a of the nipple 4 and a knob 6 is amounted to the deglutition-preventing member. The knob 6 comprises an insert 6a having a head 6a which is somewhat larger in diameter than a hole 5a ofthe deglutition-preventing member 5 and serves to fix the nipple 4 to the deglutition-preventing member5 in such mannerthatthe root 4a of the nipple 4 is inserted into the hole 5a and the insert 6a is compulsorily pushed into the hole 5a to fix the root 4a to the deglutition-preventing member 5.
In the present invention, the teeth-brushing member 1 is made of a moderately flexible (in elasticity and bending) material such as rubber or a soft synthetic resin and the size of the flat panel 2 is preferably slightly largerthan the teeth-mark formed when the upper set of teeth is engaged with the lower set of teeth.
The term "the flat panel of approximately arrangement of teeth in outline" is used herein to involve not only the flat panel of teeth-mark itself in outline but also those flat panels of semicircular, elliptical and the like shape in outline. No limitation is set for the protuberances formed on both sides of the flat panel. The shape, size, location and number of the flat panel may be varied freely according to the intended purpose. For example, protuberances of rod, conical, pyramidal, fibrous, semispherical (suitably forteeth-firming) and wavy forms come into question. Further, the shape of the nipple 4 is not limited to that shown in the figures. Any of the hollow nipple-like, oval, spherical and the like shape may be adopted. The shape of the deglutitionpreventing member5 is also not limited to a mere disk-shape as shown in the figures.
The technical effect of the teeth-brushing tool of the present invention will be apparent from the following description.
When the teeth-brushing member 1 of the teethbrushing tool is inserted into the mouth of the user, the flat panel 2 of approximately arrangement of teeth in outline is interposed between the upper set of teeth and the lower set of teeth.
The up-and-down movement of jaws caused by suction of nipple 4 and faint biting of the nipple 4 permits the engaging part of teeth to be touch with the protuberances 3 formed on both sides of the flat panel 2 whereby friction occurs between the protuberances 3 and the teeth and the teeth-brushing effect is thus achieved. When the flat panel 2 is bent to the inside of the upper set of teeth or the lower set of teeth, the protuberances 3 on both sides of the flat panel are allowed to touch with the rear side of teeth or teeth-ridge whereby brushing of teeth and teethfirming by instinction of teethridge are attained. In this case, deglutition of the teeth-brushing tool is effectively prevented by fixing the deglutitionpreventing member 5 to the teeth-brushing member 1.
According to the teeth-brushing tool of the present invention, the teeth-brushing member made of a moderately flexible (in elasticity and bending) material is bent elastically and flexibly by the movement of jaws and fainty biting action whereby the angle of the protuberances 3 with the teeth orteethridge changes naturally. Accordingly, brushing, friction and cleaning of the rear side of teeth and teethridge which have been difficult for infants and persons having trouble in the hand according to conventional teeth-brushes can very effectively be attained by the use of the teeth-brushing tool of the present invention. As the teeth-brushing member is made of a flexible material, there is no fear of abrasion of teeth and injuryofteethridge by the use of the teethbrushing tool giving a feeling of soft touch.
As infants have an instinct of suction, the teethbrushing and teeth-firming treatment as well as cleaning of teeth and teethridge can be achieved effectively for infants by the use of the teethbrushing tool of this invention, without necessity of any special technique, by utilizing the up-and-down movement ofjaws and faint biting resulting from their instinctive suction.
Thus, teeth-brushing and teeth-firming can be achieved by the use of the specific "non-grip" teeth-brushing tool of the present invention without necessary of using hand. The teeth-brushing tool of the present invention is thus suitable for the use by infants and patients or handicapped persons having trouble in the hand.
in addition, the teeth-brushing tool of the present invention is not only excellent in function but also advantageous in its simplicity in structure, its safety and its easiness in using.
Having described a specific embodiment of my bearing, it is believed obvious that modification and variation of my invention is possible in the light of the above teachings.
