Description

SPECIFICATION Multicellular waist-belted light fixture The innovation relates to a multicellular waistbelted light fixture comprising a ring-configured waist-belt body surrounding the hexagonal light fixture body circumference, the belt body being connected with a mounting means for attaching the light fixture to a mast or the like and subdividing the light fixture body into two lighttransmissive half-shells that are connected with the waist-belt body.
In the case of such light fixtures, the surface of which is thus composed of three separate structural parts, namely the two half-shells and the waist-belt body connecting said shells, the sealing of the interior multicellular light fixture space against penetrating moisture, particularly rain water as well as against dust is of great significance in regard to the operability of the light fixture. Furthermore, sealing should for lighttechnical as well as also assemblage reasons occur in conjunction with the mounting means of the half-shells on the waist-belt body in a manner such that the waist-belt body after the light fixture has been assembled defines with its surface a smooth transition to the surface of the half-shells of the light fixture.
According to the innovation, this object is accomplished in that the two half-shells have a peripheral wall which recedes like a step at its edge of opening so as to define a rectangular shoulder extending around the shell circumference and have an outer shoulder surface, against which rests one of the two marginal edges each of the waist-belt body forming a separate structural part through a peripheral sealing element, which is arranged on the end face of the marginal edge, as well as an inner shoulder surface opposite to the outer shoulder surface which are adapted to be brought into engagement with mounting support elements for the half-shells, the elements being provided on the inner side of the belt body.
It is attained by this design that sealing of the two half-shells no longer has any disturbing effect on the configuration of the waist-belt body and the two half-shells because the surfaces of the marginal regions of the waist-belt body are disposed in a plane with the adjacent surfaces of the half-shells, so that neither rain water nor dirt can collect in these transitional regions between half-shells and waist-belt body. Moreover, the shoulder located at the opening edge of the halfshell does not only serve as sealing surface but, rather, also serves for rigidifying the half-shell as well as for mounting it on the waist-belt body. The subclaims characterise advantageous embodiments of the invention. In this connection, it is particularly the feature pertaining to mounting of the peripheral sealing elements in grooves disposed in the end faces of the two marginal edges of the waist-belt body which is of essential significance because it is prevented thereby that the peripheral sealing elements are, upon assembly or disassembly of the half-sheils, lost or do not take the desired sealing position relative to the outer shoulder surfaces of the rectangular shoulders located in opposite relation to them.
The innovation is explained in more detail below reverting to the embodiment shown in the drawing. The drawing shows in: Figure 1 a schematic side view of the multicellular waist-belt light fixture attached to the mast indicated; Figure 2 a plan view of the light fixture of Figure 1;and Figure 3 an enlarged partial cross-sectional view taken on section station 3-3 of Figure 2.
The hexagonal multicellular waist-belt light fixture comprises two light-permeable half-shells 2, 3, which are connected by a waist-belt member 4, which is provided with a mounting support 18 by means of which it can be attached to a mast 1 9 shown in dotted lines in Figure 1. The two halfshells 2, 3 in the case of this embodiment are of identical design and have a peripheral wall 5, which is drawn-in like a step on the opening rim 6 of each shell as may be gathered from Figure 3, to form a rectangular shoulder 10 extending around the shell periphery, and which has an outer shoulder surface 7 against which one of the two marginal edges 8 of the waist-belt body 4 each rests through a peripheral sealing element 9. This peripheral sealing element 9 is a continuous sealing ring, which is positioned in a groove 13 located in the end face of the marginal edge 8 of the waist-belt body.
The shoulder 10, which is drawn-in in the manner of a step, of the peripheral wall 5 has a width A, measured in the direction of the diameter of the half-shells 2, 3 which is only slightly greater than the thickness B of the marginal edge 8. This provides for the possibility to orient into alignment the outer peripheral surface 11 of the waist-belt body in the region of its marginal edges 8 with the peripheral surface 12 of the half-shells, hence, to arrange both surfaces approximately in a plane, so that they merge into one another and give the rain water as well as the dirt and road dust settling onto such a multicellular waist-belted light fixture put up in the open no possibility to deposit and to penetrate into the sealing gap between the outer shoulder surface 7 and the marginal edge 8.
As can be seen from Figure 3, the waist-belt body 4 is of symmetrical design with regard to its wall cross-section, and namely in a manner such that the wall cross-section, starting from both marginal edges 8, tapers in the direction toward the centre of the belt width so that a flat hollow 20 results in the belt centre, which hollow is formed to be symmetrical to the two marginal edges and extends round about the belt body. The belt body is of uniform width round about the light fixture periphery and in the case of the present embodiment consists of a non-light-transmissive material, which can be coated with a lightreflecting coating on the inner side of the belt body.Furthermore, the belt body includes openings for passage, which are not shown, for current supply means, to the inside of the light fixture and, moreover, in case this appears expedient for lighting technique or aesthetical reasons, may also be provided with openings for passage for light reflection, which openings may be of any desired shape.
The width of the waist-belt body 4 actually is arbitrary, but in the present embodiment it corresponds to about the greatest depth of a halfshell 2, 3, which is designed as a rectangular hood.
On the inner wall 14 of the waist-belt body 4 there are provided mounting means, which are not characterised in more detail in the drawing, for all electrical structural parts of the light fixture as well as spring elements 15, which interact with holding elements 17 and press the half-shells 2, 3 against the peripheral sealing elements 9 of the waist-belt body 4, with the holding elements 17 being designed as clamps which under the bias of the springs 15 exert a pressing action on the inner shoulder surface 16 of the shoulder 10 of the halfshells 2, 3, which inner shoulder surface is positioned oppositely to the outer shoulder surface 7, and thereby clamp the half-shells to the waist-belt body 4.
In this manner, the shoulder 10 hence serves as a sealing surface for the marginal edges 8 of the waist-belt body as well as also as a clamping surface for coherency of the light fixture body.
