Description

SPECIFICATION A coupling device for anchoring and locking to a wall ducts, radiators and the like The present invention relates to a coupling device, or member or means, for anchoring and locking to masonry structures, such as walls, ceilings and the like, ducts, heating system radiators and the like, which device will be thereinafter described by way of an indicative example with respect to its installation and use for fixing ducts for example to a wall, and can also be used, with different arrangements, orientations and the like, for fixing other structures to be installed and fixedly locked to a wall, ceiling and the like.
Well known are devices for the applications and uses thereinabove specified, as made in different forms and constructional solutions.
According to the more advanced and recent technique, these devices comprise, in combination, a bar or rod, generally made of metal, at least partially threaded, effective to be inserted into and engaged with a substantially expansible tubular member, as preliminary associated to the masonry structure, by introducing said tubular member into a hole formed in said masonry structure. To this end drilling devices are generally used provided with special drills effective to form holes through bricks and other masonry structures.
Said threaded bar or rod is so located as to project as desired from the masonry structure, i.e.
from the tubular member inserted in said structure, and it is associated, at its projecting portion, to a collar or bracket member, or to a pair of brackets or jaws effective to partially encompass the duct or other like member to be anchored.
Since these device are well known, a further description thereof and of the procedure for their installation will be omitted.
However, it should be pointed out that by using individual brackets or bracket pairs, which are to be clamped against the duct or respectively about said duct, by means of a nut or other member to be engaged with the threaded rod, the jaw and more specifically the pair of jaws spread apart, thereby negatively affecting a firm holding of the duct, radiator or the like to be anchored with predetermined safety rules.
Furthermore, the member to be anchored may be differently located with respect to the masonry bearing structure, for example at different distances therefrom.
More specifically, in some cases, the member to be anchored, generally a duct or pipe, is abutted against the wall and, under this condition, an individual bracket or jaw is used, which is clamped to said wall by means of a nut, possibly a blind nut (due to aesthetic reasons), and the jaw is susceptible to misalign against the duct, thereby providing a poor clamping action.
Accordingly the present invention sets out to provide a device for the applications thereinabove indicated comprising particular combinations and arrangements of component members effective to facilitate and make more efficient the installation of the device itself.
According to one aspect of the present invention there is provided a device for coupling, anchoring and locking to a wall or other masonry structure, such as ceilings, ducts, radiators and the like, comprising at least a partially threaded rod, effective to be fixed and anchored to the masonry structure, according to a known method, and to a threaded portion thereof, projecting from said masonry structure, at least a member to be fixed is anchored, by a pair of jaws effective to be clamped about said member, or a single jaw for anchoring to the wall said member, characterized in that to the portions provided for the installation and use of the device, a holding means is associated effective to be interposed between the jaws of said pair, or between the single jaw and the portion thereagainst the member to be anchored is to be clamped, to locate said jaws or jaw in a substantially parallel relationship with respect to one another or to the surface thereagainst said member is to be clamped, in such a way that, upon clamping, said jaws or jaw do/does not misalign from said substantially parallel relationship, effective to provide an efficient holding of said member.
These and other more specific characteristics of the coupling device according to the present invention, will become more apparent from the following detailed description of possible embodiments thereof, with reference to the accompanying drawings, where: fig. 1 is a partially sectioned view illustrating a device used for anchoring a member to a masonry structure, comprising for example a hollow title, said member consisting, for example, of a duct or pipe; fig. 2 illustrates a combination of the members used for the application of fig. 1, in a disassembled condition; fig. 3 illustrates, under the conditions of fig. 1, an application of the device for fixing a duct or pipe against a wall (or a ceiling), said duct or pipe being abutted against the masonry wall; fig. 4 illustrates the members used for the application of fig. 3, in a disassembled condition;; fig. 5 illustrates another combination of members effective to be used for adapting the device for anchoring a member at a great distance from the masonry structure; fig. 6 illustrates another arrangement for applying the device for fixing a member, such as a duct or pipe, at a level or at a position different from the level or position thereat the device is preliminarily fixed to the masonry structure, by inserting the expandible tubular member into said structure; and fig. 7 is a perspective view illustrating a device for connecting two adjoining ducts or pipes.
Referring specifically to the figures of the drawing, in the several illustrated embodiments the masonry structure (being partially represented, partly in cross-section as in figs.1 and 2 and partly in view) is indicated by 10, while 12 indicates the smooth or threaded tubular member, longitudinally sectioned at 14, in order to allow for said member to remarkably expand as thereinto a rod 16 is inserted, having an extended threaded portion 18.
For assembling the component members (brackets or jaws) for supporting and fixing the pipe, for example that indicated at 20 in figs 1 and 3, to be anchored, the threaded portion 18 of the rod 16 is used, which projects from the masonry structure.
In the embodiment of figs. 1 and 2, the fixing or coupling is carried out by using a pair of jaws 22 and 24, each provided with a curved portion of radius R (fig. 2), concordant with that of the outside surface of the pipe 20 or other member to be anchored, and an extension member 26, 28 provided with a hole 30 which, for the jaw 24 nearer to the masonry structure, can act, as it is indicated at 32, to engage with the threaded portion 18 of the rod to be fixedly coupled to the masonry structure.
The member to be anchored is clamped between the jaws 22 and 24, for example by means of a nut 34, effective to draw the portion 26 of the jaw 22 nearer to the portion 28 of the opposite jaw 24. Said nut may consist of a blind type of nut 34a (fig. 2A) or it can be replaced by an expanded head nut, as it is shown at 34b in fig.
2B.
For rationally holding the member to be anchored, for example the pipe 20, the greatest efficiency is obtained as the jaws assume and maintain a proper symmetrical juxtaposition relationship, as it is shown in figs. 1 and 2. In order to obtain this useful effect, the combination of the thereinabove described members is completed, according to the invention, by a tubular spacer 36 having a length corresponding to the distance D which has to separate the members to be clamped, that is between the portions 26 and 28 of the jaws. Obviously, the members forming jointly-the device, will also comprise spacers 36 having a length depending on said distance and jaws of suitable radius R, for fixing the ducts or pipes 20 or other articles to be anchored.
That same useful effect, due to the presence and proper designing of a spacer 36, may be obtained also in the case in which said pipes or members to be anchored are abutted against a wall, as it is shown in figs. 3 and 4; in this case only a single jaw 22 is used, which is to be located in a substantially parallel relationship with respect to the surface of the masonry structure thereagainst the member 20 to be anchored will be abutted. In this case, preferably, the spacer 36 is caused to rest against said surface and then it is clamped by means of a washer 38.
That same useful characteistic, resulting from the use of the holding spacer 36, is preserved also in the case in which the device is completed with other component members. For example, as it is shown in fig. 5, when the member to be anchored is located at a great distance from the masonry structure 10, the device may comprise an internally threaded sleeve 40 effective to be inserted into the projecting threaded portion 18 of the rod, to engage with this latter a threaded extension member 42, as it is shown in fig. 5, which extension member is used in substitution for the threaded portion 18 of the rod projecting from the masonry structure.
Likewise, as it is shown in fig. 6, the coupling device may also comprise a crank or cross member 44 provided with one or more arms 46 and 48, internally threaded, effective to be engaged about the projecting threaded portion 18 of the rod (or about the extension member 42) and respectively about another extension member 50 which, with respect to the masonry structure or wall, assumes the direction defined by said crank member 44, the device, as installed, always terminating with the pair of jaws therebetween the spacer 36 is located, as fragmentariiy represented in figs. 5 and 6, in order to assure that said jaws are able of assuming and maintaining, upon clamping, the arrangement of substantial parallelism shown in figs. 1 and 2, to provide an efficient installation and anchoring.
Referring specifically to the embodiment of fig.
7, the device according to the invention comprises a first bracket 60 provided with a central portion 61, adjoining a pair of recesses having the shape of a circumference sector.
At the central portion 61 a threaded hole is provided for engaging the threaded portion of the rod inserted into the sleeve coupled to the wall, said threaded hole being located near a through hole thereinto a pin member can be inserted.
On said threaded portion and said pin member, tubular members 63 can be engaged effective to act as spacers for a second bracket 64, similar to said first bracket and effective to cooperate therewith for simultaneously locking a pair of ducts or pipes as located in an adjoining relationship. For fixing said pipes, nuts are provided threading on said threaded portion and said pin member and engaging by contact the central portion of said second bracket member 64.
Obviously the number of component members included in the device, as well as the shapes thereof, are susceptible to several modifications, depending on the arrangement the member to be anchored has to assume with respect to the masonry structure, and on the size and type of the member to be anchored, which can consist of a duct or pipe of different diameters and provided for different applications, a radiator, or the like.
