Abstract

The batteries of an electrically driven vehicle are charged when the latter is in motion by a generator B rotated by a wind turbine A mounted on the top, front or back of the vehicle. <IMAGE>

Description

SPECIFICATION Battery charger wind operated The battery charger wind operated is mounted on top, front or back of the vehicle for propulsion. The charger consists of generators (B) rotated by wind vanes or rotors (A) when the speed is 30 mph more or less. The current from the generators is controlled by regulators or by rotor governor control.
The charger can be used for pure electrichybrid or for small suitable converted fuel operated vehicles.
The charger can be used to boost a small fuel operated engine if increased power is required.
The main objective is economical working.
Figures 1 and 2 refer to rotors mounted on top of the vehicle which can be retracted if desired.
Figure 3 refers to rotors low down in front connected to generators. Lamp positions require alteration.
All rotors are shielded or protected by louvres or wire mesh.
Vanes can be fixed directly on to generators or can be connected by belts or chains to the generator shaft.
The letter C refers to electric connecting wires and the letter D to the vehicle body.
The generators charge the propulsion batteries whilst the vehicle is running and then as usual the batteries drive the electroc motors connected to the road wheels.
CLAIM
For economicre running of small vehicles under battery propulsion.
The batteries operate motors in the usual manner connected to drive the road wheels, by chains or the customary differential drive.
My idea which, I claim is new, is that the propulsion batteries are charged by wind operated rotors connected to generators placed on top, in front or behind the vehicle while running.
The generators come into operation at 30 miles per hour speed upwards.
This enables the vehicle to travel hundreds of miles without stopping and without fuel.
Owing to variation of speed and wind pressures it is essential to control the rotor or generator speed.
Governerns, regulators and cut-outs can be used.
This idea can be used with pure electric or certain converted fuel vehicles.
It is possible to use the wind rotor and generator to boost a small fuel operated engine where extra power is required.
