Description
SPECIFICATION
A pressure-control valve unit
The present invention relates to a pressurecontrol valve unit.
In particular the invention relates to a pressure-control valve unit for an anti-skid system for the wheel brakes of a motor vehicle, which unit is to be disposed, in use in a brake line between a brake pressure generator and a wheel or two wheel brake cylinders which are associated especially with a common vehicle axle. The said unit comprising a two-position multi-circuit valve common to all the brake cylinders and a respective two port, two position valve for each brake cylinder, which valves act as main valves and are pressureactuated by pilot control solenoid valves, the pressure-actuated main valves being disposed in an upper portion of a housing and the pilot control valves being disposed in a lower portion of the housing.A pressure-control valve unit of this kind is known from German published patent specification (Offenlegungsschrift) No. 28 10 1 51.
In this known pressure-control valve unit, failures can be caused by loosening of the covers of working chambers of the main valves. Furthermore, the electrical connection leads for the solenoids of the pilot control valves in a vehicle are frequently subjected to considerable vibration, such that these connection leads are interrupted. Moreover, the electrical connections might be interchanged during assembly. Finally, it is frequently not a simple matter to assemble the individual parts of a pressure-control valve unit of this kind.
According to the present invention there is provided a pressure-control valve unit for an anti-skid system for the wheel brakes of a motor vehicle, which unit is to be disposed in use in a brake line between a brake pressure generator and a wheel or two wheel brake cylinders which are associated especially with a common vehicle axle, the said unit comprising a two-position multi-circuit valve common to all the brake cylinders and a respective two port, two position valve for each brake cylinder, which valves act as main valves and are pressure-actuated by pilot control solenoid valves, the pressure-actuated main valves being disposed in an upper portion of a housing and the pilot control valves being disposed in a lower portion of the housing, and a cast or pressed intermediate plate disposed between the upper and the lower portions of the housing which plate has pressure medium passages and has line portions which are intended for establishing line connections to the upper portion of the housing and/or the lower portion of the housing.
The pressure-control valve unit in accordance with the invention has the advantage that the covers of the main valves are satisfactorily fixed after assembly of the intermediate plate. Furthermore, the electrical connections can be established in a reliable manner such that they cannot be interrupted after the intermediate plate has been mounted, even in the case of considerable vibration. Moreover, the electrical leads cannot be interchanged during assembly. Finally, the assembly work is easily facilitated and is very reliable.
The present invention will now be described further, by way of example only, with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which:
Figure 1 is a partially sectioned view of a pressure-control valve unit, in accordance with the invention.
Figure 2 is a detail, drawn to a larger scale of the embodiment of Fig. 1.
Figure 3 is a modification of the detail of
Fig. 2, and
Figure 4 is a section through another detail.
A pressure-control valve unit has a threepart housing comprising an upper housing portion 2, a lower housing portion 3 and an intermediate plate 4. The intermediate plate 4 comprises two individual plates 4' and 4" and is manufactured from plastics material by casting or pressing and is disposed between the upper and lower portions of the housing such that it is overlapped by an outer wall 5 of the lower portion 3. Magnetically actuated pilot control valves are disposed in the lower portion 3 of the housing, and pressure-actuated main valves are disposed in the upper portion 2 of the housing. The two-part intermediate plate 4 is provided with pressure medium passages 6, 7 and 8 and its two parts 4' and 4" are welded or glued to one another.
The pressure medium passages 6 and 7 establish communication between respective solenoid valve chambers 9 and 10 in the lower portion 3 of the housing and respective main valve working chambers 11 and 1 2 in the upper portion 2 of the housing. The solenoid valve chambers 9 and 10 are incorporated in the lower portion 4" of the intermediate plate.
Two spigot-like, hollow line portions 1 3 and 1 4 incorporating the pressure medium passages 6 and 7 are formed on the portion 4' of the intermediate plate and extend into the upper portion 2 of the housing and thereby establish a line connection to the working chambers 11 and 1 2 of the main valves The only parts of the main valves which are illustrated are a respective diaphragm sealing member 1 5 and 1 6 and respective covers 1 7 and 1 8 which externally seal the respective working chambers 11 and 1 2.
Fig. 2 shows the engagement of the hollow line portion 1 3 or 14, drawn to a larger scale.
It will be seen that an end 1 9 of the line portion engages a depression 20 in the cover 1 8 such that the cover 1 8 is located in the upper portion 2 of the housing. The connec tion is sealed by means of an O-ring. A circlip 22 serves as the primary means of securing the cover 1 8.
Fig. 3 shows that it is possible to transmit some of the shear forces, which might occur at an end 19' of the line portion, to a pin 23 supported on the intermediate plate 4.
While Figs. 1 to 3 show line portions 13, 1 4 for the passages 6 and 7 which are formed on the intermediate plate portion 4' during manufacture, Fig. 4 shows line portions 24 which are located on the portion 4" of the intermediate plate.
An electrical plug 26 having pins 27 is cast onto the portion 4" of the intermediate plate.
Integrally cast conductors 28 acting as line portions lead from the plug 26 to plug holes 29 into which are plugged conductor tags 30 of the magnets 31 of the solenoid pilot control valves during assembly of the unit. Thus, the resistance to vibration is increased, there is a saving on parts, and it is ensured that the electrical connections cannot be made with incorrect polarity.
