Abstract
205,489. Aluminum Co. of America, (Assignees of Boothman, D. M.). Oct. 11, 1922, [Convention date]. Vacuum closures; stoppers seated by gravity; closures completed by outstanding packing - rings; packing- rings for stoppers; materials, special, for packing-rings. - In a closure for glass tumblers and other containers for foodstuffs &c., an annular wedge - shaped space between the wall of the container 1 and the de- ;pending skirt 3, Fig. 2, of the cap 2 is adapted to receive an annular or string-like packing-ring 4 formed of rubber, paper, waxed twine, &c. and held in position by a metal band or wire 5, which also engages the wall of the container and the skirt 3. The skirt 3 may be crimped beneath the wire 5 to hold it more securely. As shown, the inner end 8 of the wire 5 is located above the outer end of the string gasket 4 to adapt it to release the gasket when its protruding outer end 6 is pulled downwards. The device is applicable to bottles which may be provided with a loose inner lid 11, Fig. 3, or a cork.
