Abstract

Guttering of the present invention comprises elongate guttering members (10, 11) joined in end to end fashion. At least one of the ends of two adjoining guttering members (10, 11) is provided with a recessed formation (11a) for receiving the adjacent end (10a) of the adjoining guttering member (11). The recessed formation (11a) includes at least one sealing rib (20) arranged to support and sealingly engage the adjacent end (10a) of the adjoining guttering member (10) and this adjacent end (10a) is held in sealing engagement with the recessed formation (11a) carrying the ribs (20) by fixing means (12) which serve to restrain separation of the adjoined guttering members (10, 11). Preferably, a band of mastic material (23) is provided between the recessed formation (11a) and the adjacent end (10a) within the region of the or each sealing rib (20) and advantageously an elastomeric sealing element (21) is provided either side of the band of mastic material (23). <IMAGE>

Description

SPECIFICATION Guttering The present invention relates to guttering, in particular guttering made from glass reinforced resin.
According to one aspect of the present invention there is provided guttering composed of elongate guttering members joined in end to end fashion, each guttering member at at least one end being provided with a recessed formation for receiving the adjacent end of an adjoining guttering member, the recessed formation including at least one sealing rib arranged to support and sealingly engage said adjacent end of the adjoining guttering member, said adjacent end being held in sealing engagement with the rib formation by fixing means which serve to restrain separation of the adjoined guttering members.
Preferably, a band of mastic material is provided between the recessed formation and the adjacent end within the region of, the sealing rib in order to enhance the seal between adjoining guttering members.
Advantageously, an elastomeric sealing element is provided either side of the band of mastic material. It has been found beneficial to provide several sealing ribs in order to enhance sealing between the adjoined guttering members.
Ideally, four sealing ribs are provided but more or less may be provided as desired. Preferably, the or each sealing rib is formed integrally with the recessed formation.
Reference is now made to the sole accompanying drawing which is a schematic part longitudinal section of a pair of adjoined guttering members.
In the figure, a first guttering member 10 is secured to a second guttering member 11 in an end to end fashion.
The guttering members 10, 11 are secured together by fixing means 12 in the form of a series of bolts 14 (only one of which is shown) which extend laterally across the guttering members. Preferably, the bolt 14 is made af stainless steel.
The end portion 1 Oa or guttering member 10 is received in a recessed formation 1 a of guttering member 11. The recessed formation 1 a has a member of sealing ribs 20 which project upwardly to support and sealingly engage the undersurface of end portion 1 Oa.
A pair of elastomeric seal members 21 are provided which are located either side of the sealing ribs 20. The region between the seal members 21 is filled with mastic material, 23; the mastic material 23 being confirmed in that region by the seal members 21 so as to define a band of mastic material which extends laterally across the guttering members and enhances the seal therebetween.
Guttering members 10 and 11 may be identical i.e., each may have a recessed formation 1 a at one end and a plain end portion 1 Oa at the other end, or alternatively member 10 may have plain end portions 1 0a at both ends and member 11 may have recessed formations 1 a at both ends.
Guttering members 10, 11 may be made from any suitable plastics material, metal or glass reinforced resins.
Maims 1. Guttering comprising elongate guttering members joined in end to end fashion, a first one of the two adjacent ends of adjoining guttering members being provided with a recessed formation for receiving the second of the two adjacent ends of adjoining guttering members, the recessed formation including at least one sealing rib arranged to support and sealingly engage said second adjacent end, said second adjacent end being held in sealing engagement with the rib formation by fixing means which serve to restrain separation of the adjoined guttering members.
2. Guttering comprising elongate guttering members joined in end to end fashion, each guttering member being provided at at least one end with a recessed formation for receiving the adjacent end of an adjoining guttering member, the recessed formation including at least one sealing rib arranged to support and sealingly engage said adjacent end of the adjoining guttering member, said adjacent end being held in sealing engagement with the rib formation by fixing means which serve to restrain separation of the adjoined guttering member.
3. Guttering as claimed in Claim 1 or Claim 2 wherein a band of mastic material is provided between the recessed formation and the adjacent end within the region of the or each sealing rib.
4. Guttering as claimed in Claim 3 wherein an elastomeric sealing element is provided either side of the band of mastic material.
5. Guttering as claimed in any of Claims 1 to 4 wherein the recessed formation is provided with four sealing ribs.
6. Guttering as claimed in any of Claims 1 to 5 wherein the or each sealing rib is formed integrally with the recessed formation.
7. Guttering as claimed in any of Claims 1 to 6 wherein the fixing means is in the form of a series of bolts extending laterally across adjoining guttering members.
8. Guttering substantially as herein described with reference to, and as shown in, the accompanying drawing.
