Density separators.-In a cyclone separator, the fan is mounted on a horizontal shaft 17 on the top of the separator and the air duct 16 leading from the centre of the separator to the eye of the fan is formed with a substantially horizontal portion tapering in section or with the floor slightly inclined to provide a self-cleaning effect. As applied to a machine for cleaning grain, Fig. 1, the cyclone separator 1 is associated with a settling chamber 12, and a rotating disc 4 which distributes the grain fed from a pipe 10, and causes it to impinge on a conical casing 5. The air in this arrangement moves in a closed cycle, taking up the light impurities from the grain in its passage through the channel 9 and being cleaned first in the chamber 12 and finally in the cyclone separator 1. The chamber 12 is formed with a downwardly extending partition which causes the air from the fan first to take a downward course to facilitate the deposit of the heavier impurities, and then an upward course to the cyclone separator which it enters tangentially and in which the final deposit of the lighter impurities taltes place. Discharge from the depositing chambers 2, 12 is effected by air-tight trap valves 3, 20. As applied for cleaning air generally, two cyclone separators are arranged in series.
