Abstract

The present invention relates to an improved device for laterally connecting any types of metal sheets, which permits to obtain such lateral or side superimposition as to fixedly connect to one another adjacent metal sheets, without requiring other connecting elements such as screws or rivets. The metal sheets are formed at a female side thereof, with a holding longitudinal edge 3 and, at the male side thereof, with an abutment longitudinal edge 4 effective to be joint connected on said holding longitudinal edge. <IMAGE>

Description

SPECIFICATION A device for laterally overlaying fretted metal sheets The present invention relates to an improved device for laterally overlaying any types of fretted metal sheets, which permits to obtain such lateral or side superimposition as to fixedly connect to one another adjacent fretted metal sheets, without requiring other connecting elements such as screws or rivets.
As it is known, adjacent fretted metal sheets are mounted or assembled with super-imposed edges and the vertical shifting with respect to one another is prevented by fixing elements such as screws, bolts, rivets or by welding.
These means cause the installation of said fretted metal sheets to be a difficult operation, thereby requiring long assembling times and auxiliary tools or equipment and rendering very high the installation costs.
The aforesaid practical drawback is, on the contrary, eliminated by using fretted metal sheets provided with the suitably designed laterally overlaying device according to the present invention.
In fact the device according to the invention is provided with holding edges wherewithin fixedly insert other abutment edges, thereby providing a joint connection between the adjacent metal sheets.
Really, by using the instant fretted metal sheets, the work for preparing the particular shapes of the side edges of said fretted metal sheets may be carried out during the making step thereby avoiding the use of particular tools and mounting materials, and accordingly greatly reducing the installation times and hence the overall cost of the installation.
The principle on which the instant invention is based is that the weight acting on two adjacent fretted metal sheets provided with the shaped laterally overlaying device, discharges all along the bent ends of each fretted metal sheet, in such a way as to provide a biassing effect necessary for preventing the superimposed edges from shifting.
Accordingly is the weight itself supported by the fretted metal sheets which contributes to increase the connection between the coupled metal sheets.
These characteristics of functional and structural nature of the instant device will become more apparent from the several figures of the accompanying drawing, where: Fig. 1 is a cross-section view illustrating the instant device for coupling fretted metal sheets; Fig. 2 is a side perspective view illustrating that same device; Fig. 3 is another side perspective view illustrating a possible modification of the instant device: and Fig. 4 illustrates the method used in the mounting or assembling step for joint connecting to one another the metal sheets.
Referring particularly to the number references of the several figures of the accompanying drawing, the instant device consists of a generic fretted metal sheet (1), which metal sheet may have any shape, at the portion included between two adjacent side overlaying or connecting elements (2).
Said fretted metal sheet (1) is characterized in that it is provided, at the opposed side ends thereof, cooperating for forming two adjacent lateral overlaying zones (2), with respectively an abutment edge (4) and a holding edge (3).
This latter is located at the lower portion of the vertical wall (13), which is slightly slanted, and which ends, at the lower part thereof, with respect to the aforesaid holding edge (3), with a wall portion (14) doubly 900 bent in such a way as to form the base (7) and an end edge (6).
This latter is housed in the recess formed nearly at the base of the wall (9), which is slightly slanted with respect to the vertical direction.
Said recess is defined by a step (5) overlaying a vertical wall portion (10) which is provided with a further triple bend, in such a way as to constitute a horizontal wall (8), a vertical wall (12) and, as thereinabove stated, a horizontal abutment (4).
From the above description and the examination of he several figures of the accompanying drawing, the great functionally and use practicity characterizing the fretted metal sheet provided with a joint connection side overlaying device according to the present invention, are self evident.
