Abstract

In order to simplify the construction and installation of a lamp holder for use in a cooker or oven, the lamp holder comprises a ceramic body 5 into which the lamp 16 is screwed; a protective glass casing 6 and at least two spring clips 12 which are hooked with one end over the edge of the ceramic body and with the other end over an edge of the casing, the spring clips having a body portion 14 which is so shaped as to permit resilient fixing of the lamp holder in an aperture in the wall 7 of the oven. <IMAGE>

Description

SPECIFICATION Lamp holder The present invention relates to a lamp holder, for use in cookers and ovens of domestic type.
A lamp holder of known type used in ovens comprises a hollow body of ceramic material, which is mounted externally of the wall of the oven and is provided with through contacts for the electrical supply to the lamp. Within the oven, the lamp is protected by a casing of glass which is resistant to high temperatures. The ceramic body is fixed to the wall of the oven by means of a transversely disposed leaf spring and screws, or by means of metal ring clips.
In turn, the protective casing is connected or screwed to the ceramic body. In order to limit heat losses, it is usual for a seal of insulating material to be interposed between the lamp holder and the wall of the oven. This lamp holder, which is the simplest of those previously known, suffers from some difficulties in assembly, does not guarantee a sufficient fit, and projects somewhat inwardly of the oven, thereby reducing the useful volume thereof.
According to the present invention, there is provided a lamp holder comprising: a ceramic body into which, in use, the lamp is screwed; a casing, for pro tectingthe lamp, of glass which is resistant to high temperature; and at least two spring clips which are hooked with one of their ends over an edge of said ceramic body and with the other of their ends over an edge of said casing, the spring clips having a body portion which is so shaped as to permit resi lientfixing of the lamp holder in an aperture.
This construction makes it possible to eliminate the mounting seal and the screws for fixing the conventional leaf spring, providing a rigid mounting which is a perfect fit against the wall of the oven, while making use of the lamp holder much more convenient and simpler.
The invention will be further described with reference to the accompanying drawing, wherein: Figure 1 shows a sectional view of an embodiment of the lamp holder according to the invention; and Figure 2 shows the lamp holder of Figure 1, seen from the interior of the oven.
Referring to the drawings, the lamp holder according to the invention comprises a hollow ceramic body 5 and a protective casing 6 of glass which is resilient to high temperatures. The ceramic body 5 is disposed outside the wall 7 of the oven and is provided with an edge 8 of annular projecting configuration 9, which has a recess 10 and an undercut portion 11. The front part of the edge 8 which is inserted in a suitable hole in the wall 7 of the oven is so shaped as to be mated to the complementary edge of the cas ing 6.
Two spring clips 12 which work in a bending mode and which are so shaped as to embrace the configuration 9 are disposed with one of their ends inserted into the recess 10 while the other end is engaged against the edge of the casing 6 so as to urge the body 5 and the casing 6 together. The spring clips 12 are also inserted in suitable grooves 13 provided in the outside peripheral surface of the edge 8.
The body portion of the spring clips 12 is suitably bent to follow the contour of the configuration 9, in particular the portion 11, and also a bent portion 14 is provided to be engaged in the hole in the wall 7, ensuring that the lamp holder is held against the wall 7. The hole in the wall 7 is provided with two seats 15 for housing the springs 12 and for preventing them from moving upon screwing and unscrewing the lamp 16 and the casing 6.
The edge 17 of the casing 6 is provided with two lugs 18 (Figure 2) for stopping rotary movement of the casing against the spring clips 12, and with two openings 19to permit the casing to befitted under the ends of the spring clips 12.
Finally, provided on the edge 17 are two oppositely disposed inclined surface portions 20 for holding the casing under the spring clips 12, to prevent unscrewing thereof.
The electrical terminals are fixed in the ceramic body 5. The internal terminals are rerepresented by the tongue portion 21 which is secured by the screw 22, and by the more outwardly disposed portion of the connecting base 23 in the hollow part of the body 5 (see Figure 1).
The external electrical connections (which are of known type and which are not shown in the drawings) are fixed to the body 5 by means of screws 24.
For assembling the lamp holder, the springs 12 are first inserted into the grooves 13 in the ceramic body 5 which is then inserted into the hole in the wall 7 of the oven. After the lamp 16 has been screwed in, the casing 6 is inserted, with the spring clips being passed through the openings 19, and with the casing being rotated in such a way as to cause the inclined surface portions 20 to engage under the spring clips 12 until the lugs 18 bear against the spring clips. This system, in a very simple and convenient manner, provides both a perfect seal between the body 5 and the casing 6 and secure fixing of the lamp holder in its entirety by means of the spring clips 12 which thus perform a double function.
This arrangement also guarantees an optimum seal against heat losses, by virtue of the resilient engagement of the inclined portions 14 of the spring clips 12 against the edge of the hole in the wall 7 of the oven.
