Abstract

A display stand, comprising at least three upright post-like vertical supports (1, 1', 1'') and hanger rods (2, 2', 2'') mounted in holes 3 spaced apart in the vertical supports and extending at right angles to the longitudinal axis of the vertical supports. The hanger rods mounted in appropriate holes of the vertical supports serve to connect and mutually brace the vertical supports and to form a free-standing display stand. The vertical supports and the hanger rods are advantageously made of wood (e.g. by turning). <IMAGE>

Description

SPECIFICATION Display Stand This invention relates to a display stand, comprising a post-like vertical support and hanger rods disposed to be borne thereby. In particular, but not exclusively, the invention concerns a display stand for use in a clothing store.
The display stands nowadays in use in clothing stores are mainly based on the use of hanger rods borne by fixed supports. Free standing display stands are also known. Also known are display stands which comprise hanger rods supported by threads or wires suspended from a ceiling.
The fixed prior art display stands intended for use in outfitting stores, have the drawback that they are inconvenient in use or lack ready adjustability. Thus such display stands have be designed and installed specifically for each outfitting store, whereby they tend to be expensive. Moreover, the difficulty of adjusting such display stands hinders or completely inhibits changes in the display stands to accommodate them to changed furnishing of the shop when the shop is given a new look.
Prior art free standing display stands and those suspended by threads or the like are suitable only for the display of smaller and less heavy clothing items or clothing of a certain type only.
The invention seeks to provide a display stand intended mainly for use in an outfitting store and which is free of the drawbacks mentioned.
According to the present invention a display stand comprises at least three upright post-like vertical supports, each provided with a plurality of holes spaced apart along the support and extending at right angles to the longitudinal axis of that vertical support, and a plurality of hanger rods located in holes of the vertical supports to connect and mutually brace the vertical supports.
The invention thus resides in the use of hanger rods which can be detachably fitted into holes provided in the three or more perforated, post-like vertical supports. It is thus possible to fashion a display stand of any desired kind by connecting the vertical supports together with the aid of the hanger rods and optionally also other equivalent connecting rods. If desired, the vertical supports may be braced against a ceiiing, fioor or wall. It is however easily possible to make the assembly of supports free-standing. It is also possible to brace one or more of the vertical supports between the ceiling and the floor for example in suchwise that the stand rotates about a vertical axis.
A display stand in accordance with the invention affords remarkable advantages over prior art display stands. A display stand in accordance with the invention can easily be assembled and adjusted by hand without speciai training, particular dexterity or tools. It is easily possible to convert a display stand from one configuration to another as the requirements of a particular store change. A display stand in accordance with the invention commands a favourable price, and lends itself to mass production.
A display stand in accordance with the invention has proved highly effective in practice.
When articles of clothing, such as trousers for instance, are hung on the hanger rods pushed into the holes provided in the vertical supports, these rods bend and bind in the holes to become firmly secured in place. The articles of personal attire can be well displayed; the hanger rods being adjusted to the desired projecting length according to the article of clothing that is to be displayed on it. It is easy to remove articles from the stand. If the vertical supports and the hanger rods of the display stand are made of wood (e.g.
turned on a lathe), it becomes readily possible to change the colour scheme of the stand to tone in with alterations and reorganisations of the store premises merely by repainting. It is further noted that natural wood is an excellent material for complementing the display of clothing articles.
The invention will now be described, by way of example, with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which: Figure 1 is a perspective view of a freestanding display stand according to the invention, Figure 2 is a section of the central part of the stand taken along the line Il-Il in Figure 1, Figures 3a and 3b are schematic views of a modified display stand according to the invention, shown respectively, in plan and side eievation, Figure 4 is a schematic view of a second modified display stand according to the invention seen from above, and Figure 5 is a schematic view of a third modified display stand according to the invention also seen from above.
The display stand depicted in Figure 1 comprises a post-like vertical support 1 and two hanger rods 2,2' carried thereby. The vertical support 1 is provided with through-bores 3 which are spaced from each other and which extend through the support 1 normal to the longitudinal axis of the support 1. The hanger rods 2,2' have been pushed through said bores 3 to serve as hanging means for articles of clothing (not shown). The articles of clothing may be directly draped over the rods or suspended from them e.g.
with the aid of conventional clothing hangers. To reduce the risk of clothing hangers sliding off the rods, the ends of the hanger rods 2 can be provided with transverse grooves 5.
In the embodiment shown in Figure 1 a long central support 1 is made free-standing by two pairs of shorter supports 1',1". The shorter supports 1' and 1" are secured by hanger rods 2" to the central support 1 and thus define feet to support the latter. The bores 3 provided in the vertical supports 1, 1', 1", in the embodiment of Figures 1 and 2, extend perpendicular to the longitudinal axis of the respective support and are spaced-apart along the support, alternate bores 3 being disposed with one at 900 relative to the other. In this way the axes of bores lie in one of the two pianes which intersect at right angles along the axis of the vertical support. The bores 3 may present not only said 90-degrees displacement, one relative to another, but equaliy any desired phase shift can be employed, for instance one of 60 degrees and/or one of 45 degrees (as is shown in Figure 5).
The display stand shown in Figure 1 can be extended with other vertical supports 1 and/or the pairs of supports 1', 1" can be made long enough to support hanger rods at convenient heights for display purposes.
Figure 3a shows a plan form above of a freestanding display stand according to the invention wherein eight vertical supports 1 have been connected together in a rectangular array with the aid of interconnecting hanger rods 2. It is possible to insert into other bores 3 provided in the vertical supports 1, in addition to the aforementioned interconnecting rods 2, any desired number of additional hanger rods for displaying clothing (not depicted) on the stand. Figure 3b shows the display stand of Figure 3a in side elevation, with the vertical supports 1 and the interconnecting hanger rods 2 disposed at right angles.
The display stand shown in Figure 4 comprises four vertical supports 1 connected together along a zig-zag line by means of three interconnecting hanger rods 2 each of which is disposed perpendicular to the adjacent hanger rod 2 and to the vertical supports. Each hanger rod 2 passes through one support to provide a portion of hanger rod projecting on both sides thereof. In the embodiment shown in Figure 5, five vertical supports 1, equally spaced in a row, have been connected together by a continuous connecting rod 4. In addition, on each vertical support 1, horizontal hanger rods 2 have been mounted which are mutually parallel and are disposed at an angle of 45 degrees relative to the connecting rod 4 binding the vertical supports 1 together.
In the display stand shown in Figure 1 a plateshaped member 6 for a size number or price tag has been shown on one end of one of the hanger rods (2'). The hanger rods 2 as well as the vertical support 1 can be made of wood (e.g. by working on a lathe). The vertical supports 1 and/or the hanger rods 2 can be coloured as desired.
