203,974. Automatic Telephone Manufacturing Co., Ltd., and Smith, S. R. Dec. 19, 1922. Magnetic instruments. - An electromagnetic telephone receiver is adjusted by means of a disc 11 of magnetic material which is adapted to be moved in an axial direction nearer to or further from the pole-pieces on the opposite side of the coils to the diaphragm. The permanent magnet 5 is provided with pole-shoes 6, which carry the exciting coils 7 and are fixed to an insulating block 8. The disc 11 is moved within a central hole in the block 8 by means of a screw 12 with a milled head 13, and is held in any position by a spring 14. A coarse adjustment is provided in the form of paper rings which may be fitted between the diaphragm 4 and the case 3 containing the magnet system.
