Abstract

203,919. Watkins, G. St. B. S. Oct. 2, 1922. Tobacco pipes.-A metal shell is provided with 'a loose detachable bowl liner, with or without a detachable stem liner. The shell A is of aluminium, silver, or other metal, and is formed by die-casting or otherwise. The bowl liner D is of wood, briar, meerschaum, &c., and in the form shown in Fig. 1 is forced into place by a screwed ring D<4>. Alternatively the bowl portion of the shell is formed in two parts screwed together and the liner is clamped between them. A stem liner E, Fig. 5, may be similarly held and may have a coned end E<2> fitting a corresponding hole in the bowl liner D and serving to force this into place, the bowl liner being coned externally either for its whole length or, as shown, at its upper portion D<3> to fit a corresponding internal bore of the shell.. The mouthpiece B may screw into the shell as shown at B<5>, Fig. 5, or may fit a socket in the liner E.
