Description

SPECIFICATION Device for Changing Continuously the Density in Circular Knitting Machines The present invention relates to a device for changing continuously the density in circular knitting machines for knitting hosiery goods.
Small diameter knitting machines are known, which are provided with a device for the continuous change in density, in which a pushing pawl for driving a density cam is engaged from the timing device of the machine, or the control chain, and disengaged from the control drum of the machine. This substantially double control of the pushing has disadvantages as to construction on the one hand, which consist in the intricacy of the structural arrangement and the necessity of control segments on the control drum as well as the control chain, and operational disadvantages on the other hand. The latter consist in that for the purpose of termination or particularly interruption of the continuous density, it is necessary to perform a change in the machine, or an overturning of the control drum, whereby its diameter is increased. It is also possible to modify the pushing pawl and thus interrupt the continuous density by eliminating teeth and restarting the pushing from the control chain.
Thus, it is necessary to use for various kinds of knitwork a suitably modified density cam.
The object of the present invention consists substantially in mitigating the said disadvantages and in forming a simple and arbitrarily controllable device.
According to the present invention there is provided a device for changing continuously the density in circular knitting machines for manufacturing hosiery goods, comprising a cam for continuous density change provided with teeth and a pushing pawl arranged on a swingably driven lever, towards the end of an arm of the lever on which the pushing pawl is arranged, a locking lever being mounted with its step-like end, said lever being controlled by a mechanical transmission from the timing device of the machine.
An embodiment of the present invention will now be described, by way of example, with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which: Fig. 1 represents a side view of the device for continuous density, with the locking lever in a position eliminating pushing; Fig. 2 the same as shown in Fig. 1, with the locking lever in one of the pushing limiting positions.
A known small diameter circular knitting machine is provided with a device for continuous density change, controlling the axial lifting of the needle cylinder and thus the depth of sinking needles relative to the knock over plane.
The device consists of a rotary cam 1, of which a shaft 2 is driven by a mechanical transmission not shown from a needle cylinder not shown. Cam 1 causes a swinging motion of lever 3, which is provided with a roller 4 on one of its arms, and on the other arm 31 of which is swingably arranged a pushing pawl 5, which is spring loaded by spring 5 anchored in the machine frame not shown. Lever 3 is also mounted in the machine frame on pin 3'.
The pushing pawl 5 engages the teeth of cam 7 for continuous density change, which is mounted on the control drum not shown freely rotatably. By a known, not shown mechanical transmission, the axial lift of the needle cylinder is controlled from the cam 7 for continuous density change.
Locking lever 8 is arranged at the end of arm 31 with its steplike end. Locking lever 8 is spring loaded by a spring 9 anchored in the machine frame, where the locking lever 8 is also mounted on pin 8'. At the other end of locking lever 8 is attached cable 10, the other end of which is connected to a sensing lever not shown which is controlled from the timing device of the machine.
The device as specified above operates in the foliowing manner: When the device for continuous change of density is not operative, the locking lever 8 is in the position as shown in Fig. 1, at which its final projection at the steplike end holds or locks arm 31 and thus lever 3 in a position, when roller 4 is not within the active range of cam 1, rotating in the direction N. Lever 3 is not swung out and the pushing pawl 5 does not engage or push cam 7 for continuous density change.
When the locking lever is swung out in the direction S (Fig. 2) by a pulse from the timing device of the machine by intermediary of cable 10, arm 31 of lever is released. By influence of spring 6, the pushing pawl 5 is pressed towards the step like end of locking lever 8. As to the height of contact surfaces on the timing device, locking lever 8 is adjustably swung out in an angular direction, so that arm 31 of lever 3 bears against one of the three steps made on the locking lever 8, in the present case on step K.
Thereby, the adjustment of the other end of lever 3 with roller 4 relative to cam 1 is given, and thus also the length, or the time of engagement of cam 1 with roller 4 of lever 3, respectively, and thus also the swinging rate of lever 3 and the length of pushing of cam 7 for continuous density change by intermediary of pushing pawl 5.
In this manner, it is possible to adjust a different course of pushing cam 7 for continuous density change on the basis of the program of the timing device, independently of machine changes.
The disengagement of the operation of the device is performed by means of spring 9, which adjusts locking lever 8 back into the position as shown in Fig. 1 at the forward movement of pushing lever 5, the control contact of the sensing lever for controlling cable 10, or locking lever 8, respectively, being not adjusted on the timing device. It is particularly advantageous for this manner of controlling continuous density change, to use a timing device with control ratchets.
The main advantage of the device according to the present invention consists in its simplicity and therefrom in its both operational and functional reliability without demanding machine stoppage.
