Description

SPECIFICATION A runway for the drawers of furniture The invention relates to a guide rail for drawers of the like with an adjusting device for fitting on the front side of the drawerforfurniture in which runways co-operate through load transmitting roller body arrangements with the drawer side runways and the drawer mounted thereon.
For the fitting of the front-side of the drawer it is hitherto known to fix the front side with so-called front angles on the bottom of the drawer and on the side walls of the drawer. This however has the drawback that the front angles take up a relatively large amount of space in the drawer and are adjustable with difficulty in particular when the drawer is already full because then the front angles are no longer accessible. Furthermore there are adjusting devices which adjust the distance between the body and the runway directly adjacent the drawer side. In the space between the body side and the drawer runway by an adjusting means fitted, for example, to the body side and is supported on the drawer side runway. This arrangement however is not applicable with plastics drawers in which a lateral covering of the roller body arrangement is present so that the roller body arrangement itself and the parts of the body side and runway associated with the roller body arrangements are not accessible.
The problem of the present invention is to design a runway for drawers with an adjusting device such that the adjusting device is accessible without trouble from the front side of the runway so that grips on the front side of the drawer or on the inside of the drawer or on those parts of the runway adjacent the roller body arrangement.
Similarly an adjustment even with the drawer pushed in is possible; in addition the body side runway is formed adjustable over its whole length even in the rear area of the drawer without thereby the drawer having to be drawn out.
For the sblution of the problem the invention is characterised in that the adjusting arrangement is formed from at least one screw-on flap connected to the body side runway serving for fixing of the runway on the body on the flexible member of which the body side runway is fastened.
A feature of the present invention is therefore the face that now the whole vertical leg of the body side runway is no longer distorted but that the screw on flap of the body side runway for the fixing on the body consists of a rigid plate which is in connection with a flexible member through a hinge edge so that the body runway is fixed on the flexible member.
With the present invention therefore the vertical leg of the body side runway is no longer distorted but the fixing member (screw-on flap) of the body side runway on the body so that the body side runway itself remains underformed. This construction has the advantage that the whole body runway does not have to have on its whole length a further vertical leg which is distorted.
The screw-on flaps (welded on plates) according to the invention are cheaper in manufacture and result in a substantial saving in material.
In a further development of the subject-matter of the invention the bending of the flexible member of the screw-on flap is effected in that in a screwthreaded bore of the flexible member a pressing screw is arranged, the shank of which presses on the body.
With this construction a sensitive adjusting possibility by means of the pressing screw is possible. A position clearance once adjusted remains as the pressure screw contacts constantly with its front side bolt end on the body. Thus a jamming of the drawer during a movement of the drawer is prevented.
Also the fact that the adjusting arrangement according to the invention is disposed in the front area of the body side runway so that the pressure screw is within reach from the front without trouble when the drawer is pushed in so that the lateral drawer clearance can be adjusted without great expenditure of work.
According to the invention a runway for a chest of drawers and like furniture comprises an adjusting device for the fitting on the front side of the drawer so that the body side pairs runways co-operate through load transmitting roller body arrangement with the drawer side pairs of runways and the drawer fixed thereon, characterised in that the adjusting arrangement is formed from at least one screw on flap, connected to the runway for affixing this runwaytothe body through a flexible member.
In the first embodiment according to the present invention the pressure screw is supported on the body. In a second embodiment according to the present invention instead of the pressure screw a pressure element is provided which is provided in the space between the bendable and non-bendable part of the screw on flap and upon its adjustment the horizontal distance between the said parts is variable. In one construction of this idea of the invention the pressure element is formed as a displaceable wedge (pressure wedge) which contacts with its wedge faces on one hand on the fixed part and on the other hand on the bendable part of the screw on flap.
In a further embodiment the pressure element is formed as a rotatable cam the eccentrically formed outer periphery of which contacts on the one hand on the rigid and on the other hand on the bendable part of the screw on flap.
These embodiments have the advantage that the displacement of the wedge and the rotation of the eccentric can be effected by means of a screw accessible directly from the front. There is the further advantage that such an adjusting arrangement can be disposed in the front as well as in the rear area of the body side guide rail whereby the displaceable wedges and the rotatable eccentries are connected rotationally fixed to one another by a common axle so that with a single adjusting screw on the front end of the body side guide rail several adjusting arrangements disposed along the body side guide rail can be adjusted without thereby the drawer having to be drawn out. Common to all embodiments according to the present invention is the fact that the body side guide rail remains underformed so that a possible tilting of the load transmitting roller body arrangement is obviated. The invention will be described with reference to the drawings showing embodiments of the invention further.
Fig. 1 shows a iongitudinal section through the left side of a drawer runway; Fig. 2 shows a view in the direction of the arrow II of Fig. 1; Fig. 3 shows a longitudinal section through the body side guide rail in a second embodiment; Fig. 4 shows a view in the direction of the arrow IV of Fig. 3; Fig. 5 shows a further embodiment similar to representation in Fig. 4; Fig. 6 is a plan of the embodiment shown in Fig. 5; Fig. 7 shows a further embodiment in comparison with Fig. 5; Fig.-8 shows a plan of the arrangement according to Fig.7; Fig. 9 shows a plan of a further embodiment; Fig. 10 shows a section through a sixth embodiment Fig. 11 shows a detail view of the pressure element formed as an eccentric; Fig. 12. shows a section on line XII in Fig. 10.
In Fig. 1 a runway 1 is fixed to a body 3 by a fixing screw 26. The fixing part is formed as a screw on flap 24 which consists of a rigid member 7 which is fixed on the body 3 by means of the fixing screw 26, and of a flexible member 6 connected to the rigid plate 7 by an edge 13 on which is formed a horizontal leg 4 the runway 1 having upper and lower bearing surfaces.
In Fig. 1 a load transmitting roller body arrangement is illustrated diagrammatically which transmits the adjustment of the runways by an amount 20 on the drawer side guide rail 22 so that the drawer 19 is adjustable in the direction of the double arrow 17.
The runway 1 is fixed on the body 3 only through the fixing plate 24 so that the running surface of the runway and the leg 4 of the runway 1 adjoining the runway surface remain under formed upon adjustment of the adjusting means so that a tilting of the roller body arrangement is prevented.
The bending of the flexible member 6 relativelyto the rigid plate 7 of the plate 24 is affixed in to the flexible member 6 by a screw 27 in a threaded bore 45, the screw 27 being formed as a grut screw. The front side end of the stem of the pressure screw 27 presses on the body 3 so that as shown in Fig. 1 the member 6 is flexed by an amount 20 upon adjustment which can be adjusted in a horizontal plane.
The flexible member 6 is formed with a U-shaped cut-out 5 (Fig. 2) affixed to the member 6 by the hinge edge 13 so that the screw 26 attaches the flap to the plate 7 byte edge 13.
The second embodiment in Figs. 3 and 4 show substantial agreement with the embodiment accord ing to Figs 1 and 2. Differing therefrom a pressure screw 28 is arranged in a screw threaded bore 45 in a rigid flap below the flexible member 6 so that the adjustment of the pressure screw 28 can be effected easily by a tool blade 9 in which the flexible member 6 is pivotable in the directions of the arrow 12. The screw on flap 25 according to Figs 3 and 4 is charac terised therefore by particularly easy accessible adjustment In Figs. and 6 a third embodiment of a screw on flap 35 is shown whereby the hinge edge 13' now runs vertically in contradistinction to the embodiment of Figs 1-4.
The embodiment according to Fig. 5 and the remaining embodiments according to Figs 7-12 have the runway connected to the actual screw on flap only via a short connecting member 29. This type of arrangement has the important advantage that upon actuating the pressure screw only the flexible member 6 of the screw on flap is deformed the load transmitting parts of the runway 1 however remain underformed. A substantial saving of material results because a vertical leg contacting the body 3 extending over the whole length of the runway 1 is avoided.
As shown in to the embodiment of Figs 7 and 8 a further screw on flap 36 is shown in which the pressure screw 37 is arranged in a screw threaded bore 45 in a sheet metal member 31 bent at an angle form the flexible member 6.
In this application the pressure screw 37 has the advantage of easier accessibility from the front side of the drawer.
In Fig. 9 a further embodiment of a screw on flap 30 is shown in which the pressure element is arranged as a movable plastics wedge 32 between the rigid plate 7 and the flexible member 6 of the screw in flap 30. The displacement of the plastics wedge 32 in the direction of the double arrow 46 is effected by passing the plastic wedge 32 through an axial screw-threaded bore 33 gripped by the associ-ated bolt thread of a pressure screw 38 the screw 38 being rotatably mounted in bores 34 in the screw on flap 30.
Upon adjustment of the plastics wedge 32 in the directions of the arrow 46 the wedge presses on the stationary plate 7 and on the flexible member 6. The screw on flap 30 gives an adjustment of the flexible member6 in the direction of the arrow 17. This construction has the advantage that the pressure screw 32 is accessible directly from the front from the front-side of the drawer.
The further advantage of this arrangement consists in that in a simple manner also several screw on flaps 30 can be disposed one behind the other on the runway 1,the pressure elements (plastics wedges 32) of which are then connected by an axle 39 so that by the operation of a single pressure screw several screw on the flaps arranged along the runway can be adjusted.
In this way also in the rear area of the runway 1 suitably adjusting devices can be arranged which are operable jointly by a pressure screw 38 accessible from the front side.
A further embodiment of this adjusting device is shown in Figs. 10-12. The screw on the flap 40 shown there has as a pressure element an eccentric 43 which contacts with its peripheral faces formed eccentricaily on stationary plate 7 and on the flexible member 6 of the screw on flap 40. The rotation of the eccentric 43 is effected via a square bar 41 which is likewise accessible from the front. Here also several adjustable screws on the flaps 40 arranged one behind the other can be adjustable together simultaneously by a common square bar 41 connecting the eccentric 43.
The mounting of the eccentric 43 is effected in an opening 44 in the flexible member 6 of the screw on flap 40 which is formed from pressed out flaps of the flexible member 6.
Figs 11 and 12 show the size ratios of the eccentric faces (a,b,c) in order to ensure a sufficient adjustment clearance.
