Abstract

The implement comprises a curved blade mounted for movement about an eccentric pivot in a bracket supporting a handle. Prongs on the bracket locate the implement relative to the edge of a lawn and foot pressure on the projecting part of the blade forces the blade downwardly about its pivot to cut the lawn edge. <IMAGE>

Description

SPECIFICATION Lawn trimming implement The implement consists of 4 basic components a long handle. A two pronged base bracket, a scythe or scimitar shaped knife and a tension spring.
The purpose of the implement is to cut lawn, lawn roots and soil to a depth approx 40m/m.
It is claimed that the novelty is in the design of the scythe or scimitar shaped blade, which when rotated on its eccentric positioned pivot, cuts into the earth with a slicing action.
The principle of operation is to locate the base bracket prongs against the path edge, using foot pressure on the bracket to penetrate the prongs, into the lawn to their full depth.
Using foot pressure on the edge of the cutter, press downwards until the foot reaches the lawn surface. The implement is moved and the operation repeated, so that a continuous cut is produced into the lawn, at a constant distance from the path edge.
After cutting, the unwanted strip of lawn adjacent to the path can be lifted and disposed of, leaving a neatly trimmed lawn edge.
The cutting is so easy, a light weight woman or boy can easily operate the implement without having to bend the back.
1. That the blade edge may be (a) Sharp (b) Blunt (c) Saw toothed (d) Serrated (e) Wavy 2. That the blade rate of eccentricity may be changed to suit (a) Cutting (b) Sawing (c) Shearing (d) Clamping (e) Folding 3. That the blade may act against a (a) Knife edge to guillotine (b) Slot to shear (c) Surface or surfaces to clamp or cut 4.
