Abstract

In a dish washing machine provided with electrical heating equipment for heating rinsing liquid and for drying crockery and with a rotatable spray arm arranged above the heating equipment, the spray arm comprises a plastics element (5) provided with spray nozzles (6) which is screened from the heating equipment by at least one sheet metal element (7), the gap between the plastics and metal elements being filled with either air or water. <IMAGE>

Description

SPECIFICATION Dish washing machine The present invention relates to a dish washing machine.
DE-OS 1,628, 547 discloses a sprinkler arm of plastics material, which is assembled from a plurality of different parts, i.e. two different plastics shells and two different metal slide rings. A sprinkler arm together with spray nozzles and a bearing position may be formed as one integral blowmoulding of plastics, closed on all sides.
DE-AS 21 58719 discloses a sprinkler arm which comprises two thin-walled sheet metal shells, connected together along their edge portions by folding.
Where sprinkler arms of plastics material are used, there is a risk in a dish washing machine of the plastics being destroyed or starting to burn if the sprinkler arm is disposed in the vicinity of an electrical heater, which is switched on for drying the crockery while the sprinkler arm is stationary and switched off.
According to the present invention there is provided a dish washing machine comprising an electrical heating device for heating washing liquid and for drying crockery, and a rotatable sprinkler arm disposed above the heating device and comprising a plastics element provided with spray nozzles, at least one sheet metal element for screening the plastics element from the heating device and means for providing at least one of an air gap and a water layer between the heating device and the sprinkler arm.
The plastics element may form a shell-shaped upper part comprising the spray nozzles, the lower part of which comprises a sheet metal shell, the base of which is formed into collecting pockets for a water seal.
The plastics element may be formed as a blowmoulding, carrying, at sections which overlap or overlie the electrical heating device, metal sheets which screen the plastics element from the heating device by air gaps or by water seals which collect in the metal sheets.
The heating device may comprise an electric radiant heating bar.
Sheet metal elements may be provided either at the positions of the sprinkler arm at which overlapping with the heating bar is possible. In this embodiment the sprinkler arm may comprise an inexpensive plastics blowmoulding, with integrally formed spray nozzles, while the sheet metal elements may be so fixed to it that between the metal sheets and the plastics there remains an air gap and/or the metal sheets are formed to a trough-shape so that water seals form in them, to replace coolant during the drying operation.
The sprinkler arm may comprise a single-piece plastics blow-moulding, the base of which facing towards the heating device is dish-shape of so that, when the circulating pump is switched off, a water seal remains in the deformations of the base, which seal protects the sprinkler arm from overheating while the heating device is operating.
Embodiments of the present invention will now be more particularly described by way of example and with reference to the accompanying drawings in which Fig. 1 shows a sprinkler arm, Fig. 2 shows a section through a sprinkler arm comprising a plastics blowmoulding and a lower sheet metal screen which can be fitted thereto, and Fig. 3 shows a sprinkler arm of plastics material, in section.
The sprinkler arm shown in Fig. 1 comprises an upper plastics shell 1, provided with spray nozzles 2 and a lower sheet metal shell 3, in the base of which collecting pockets 4 are formed. If the circulating pump is switched off, then water seals remain in the collecting pockets 4, which seals can evaporate during the drying operation and thereby cool the sprinkler arm.
In the sprinkler arm shown in Fig. 2, a plastics element 5 is formed as a blowmoulding, which is provided on its upper face with spray nozzles 6 and to the lower face of which one or more sheet metal elements 7 can be connected.
Fig. 3 shows a sprinkler arm comprising a singlepiece plastics blowmoulding Sin the base of which collecting pockets 4 for storing water seals are provided.
1. A dish washing machine comprising an electrical heating device for heating washing liquid and for drying crockery, and a rotatable sprinkler arm disposed above the heating device and comprising a plastics element provided with spray nozzles, at least one sheet metal element for screening the plastics element from the heating device and means for providing at least one of an air gap and a water layer between the heating device and the sprinkler arm.
2. A dish washing machine as claimed in claim 1, wherein the sprinkler arm comprises a plastic blowmoulding having a base provided with dished depressions to retain the water layer.
3. A dish washing machine as claimed in claim 1, wherein the plastics element is an upper one of two connected shell parts and the sheet metal element is the lower one of the two shell parts and provided with collecting pockets to provide the water layer.
4. A dish washing machine as claimed in claim 1, wherein the plastics element comprises a blowmoulding, carrying metal sheets at regions overlying the electrical heating device, the metal sheets screening the plastics element from the heating device by air gaps or water pockets provided by the metal sheets.
5. A dish washing machine substantially as hereinbefore described with reference to Fig. 1 of the accompanying drawings.
6. A dish washing machine substantially as hereinbefore described with reference to Fig. 2 of the accompanying drawings.
7. A dish washing machine substantially as hereinbefore described with reference to Fig. 3 of the accompanying drawings.
