Abstract

A holder (9) for magnetic cassette tapes consists of two covers (10, 11) with a spine (12) disposed therebetween. The covers (10, 11) and the spine (12) are formed integrally from a plastics material with regions (13) shaped to allow movement of the covers (10, 11) relative to the spine (12). Adhesive tape strips are disposed on the inside surface of one of the covers (11) so that a conventional cassette box (18) may be fixed on that surface with the other cover (10) free to lie over the box (18) such that the whole assembly presents the appearance of a book. <IMAGE>

Description

SPECIFICATION Cassette holder The present invention relates to holders for magnetic tape cassettes.
Tape cassettes are usually supplied in a plastics box and these boxes may sometimes be stored in racks or in cases specially designed for their reception. Often, however, the cassettes are merely stacked or even left lying in random fashion in the vicinity of the cassette tape recorder and present an untidy and displeasing appearance.
An object of the present invention is to provide a holder for a tape cassette which facilitates neat storange of the cassettes and provides further protection to that already supplied by the standard tape box.
According to the present invention there is provided a cassette holder comprising a front cover, a rear cover, and a spine disposed between and attached to said covers so as to allow flexible movement of at least one of the covers relative to the spine, means being also provided for attachment of a cassette box to one of said covers.
The invention will hereinafter be further described by way of example with reference to the accompanying drawings in which: Figure 1 is a perspective view of a cassette holder constructed in accordance with the present invention and shown in the open position; Figure 2 is a perspective view of the cassette holder of Figure 1 but with a cassette box fixed to the inside of one of the covers; and Figure 3 is a perspective view of the cassette holder of Figure 2 shown in a closed position.
Referring first to Figure 1, the exemplified cassette holder 9 comprises a front cover 10, a rear cover 1 1, and a spine 12. The covers 10 and 11 and the spine 12 are formed integrally of plastics material and regions 13 between the covers are shaped to allow flexible movement of the covers 10 and 11 relative to the spine 12. The interior of the holder is lined with paper 14 and means for attaching a cassette box are provided on the inside of cover 12, in the form of adhesive strips 15, 16, 17. The uppermost surface of each of the strips 15, 16, 17 is coated with an adhesive substance which is covered by a protective peel-off layer. To fix a cassette box 18 (Figure 2) to the cover 11, the protective layers of each of the strips 15, 16, 17 are removed and the box 18 is pressed firmly into contact therewith such that a pivotable lid portion 19 of the box 18 is outermost.
As may be seen from Figure 3 the cassette holder 9 when closed covers and protects the cassette box. A more important function lies in the fact that the combination of holder 9 and cassette 18 takes on the appearance of a small book and as such may be inobtrusively stored on a bookshelf.
Of course the invention is not limited to the particular embodiment described above and whilst individual features of that embodiment may be adapted in any construction in accordance with the invention, other modifications may be introduced without departing from the scope of the present invention. Thus, for example, the outer surface of the holder 9 may be provided with a simulated leather finish and/or a slot may be provided in the spine 12 to allow a label to be inserted.
1. A cassette holder comprising a front cover, a rear cover, and a spine disposed between and attached to said covers so as to allow flexible movement of at least one of the covers relative to the spine, means being also provided for attachment of a cassette box to one of said covers.
2. A cassette holder as claimed in Claim 1 in which the front and rear covers are of rectangular shape.
3. A cassette holder as claimed in Claim 1 or 2 in which the front and rear covers and the spine are formed integrally of a plastics material.
4. A cassette holder as claimed in any preceding claim in which the means for attachment of a cassette box to one of said covers comprise strips of tape attached to the inside of said one cover and having an adhesive surface outermost.
5. A cassette holder as claimed in any preceding claim in which the spine is provided with an outer slot for the insertion of a label.
6. A cassette holder as claimed in any preceding claim in combination with a box for housing magnetic cassette tapes.
7. A cassette holder substantially as hereinbefore described with reference to and as illustrated in Figure 1 of the accompanying drawing.
8. A cassette holder in combination with a cassette box, substantially as hereinbefore described with reference to Figures 2 and 3 of the accompanying drawings.
