Description
SPECIFICATION
Mixer wagon for feeding farm animals
This invention relates to mixer wagons for feeding farm animals.
Mixer wagons are designed to accept a variety of animal feedstuffs such as silage, chopped hay, chopped straw, soya bean meal, dairy meal, mineral supplements, and so on, and to mix them together thoroughly and then as required to discharge them into feeding mangers for the animals.
These vehicles are normally fitted with weighting facilities so that the farmer can see what weight of each feeding stuff is placed in each machine. In order to arrive at a satisfactory capacity to deal with large numbers of animals the hopper shaped vehicles are necessarily rather high off the ground and do not lend themselves to hand loading. Consequently all the feeding stuffs have to be lifted up into the feeder by mechanical means such as a fore-end loader on a tractor. Certain ingredients are required in fairly small quantities, for instance, soya bean meal, crushed rock salt, minerals, and so on, and it would be convenient if these materials could be hand loaded since their volume does not really call for mechanical loading.
This invention has for its object to provide a simple means of hand loading small quantities of ingredients.
According to this invention there is provided a mixer wagon for feeding farm animals comprising a wagon having one or more internal augers to mix and convey the material in the wagon to a discharge outlet and a filling chute at or near the rear wall of the wagon for receiving minor quantities of material to be mixed with the main ingredients.
One form of mixer wagon made acccording to this invention is illustrated in the drawing wherein:
Figure 1 is a diagrammatic sectional side elevation;
Figure 2 is a diagrammatic end view.
Referring to the drawing, the mixer wagon comprises an open topped hopper having side walls 2 and an end wall 4. A main auger 6 moves the material forward in the direction of the arrows a for mixing and discharge through a discharge outlet 8 in one of the walls 2.
Two secondary augers 10 working in the direction of arrows b recirculate the material during mixing and relieves the pressure around the discharge opening 8 when unloading.
On the end wall 4 there is an open chute 1 2 at a convenient distance from the ground so that it is easily accessable to a man standing on the ground. The top of the chute 1 2 is coveed with open wire mesh 1 4 of lage size.
The wagon is drawn by a tractor and the augers are powered from the power take-off of the tractor.
When concentrated and/or unusually expensive items are poured by hand into the chute 1 2 such as from a paper sack, they will go readily into the feeder vehicle and be mixed with the other ingredients, since at or near the end of the feeder where the chute is mounted, the main auger 6 is continually taking stuff away from the end region leaving always a void and there is thus no possibility of material flowing back towards the man doing the hand filling. By this simple means an easy and hand facility is provided for the farmer.
Claims (4)
1. Mixer wagon for feeding farm animals comprising a wagon having one or more internal augers to mix and convey the material in the wagon to a discharge outlet and a filling chute at or near the rear wall of the wagon for receiving minor quantities of material to be mixed with the main ingredients.
2. Mixer wagon for feeding farm animals according to claim 1 wherein the said shute is provided in the rear wall of the wagon at a height easily accessible to a person standing on the ground.
3. Mixer wagon according to claim 1 or claim 2 wherein the said chute delivers directly into an auger at a point where it is continually taking material away so that the materials falling through the chute drop into a void.
4. Mixer wagon for feeding farm animals substantially as described with reference to the drawings.
