Description

SPECIFICATION A holder for an egg The invention relates to a holder for an egg.
According to the present invention there is provided a holder for an egg, comprising a cup-like lower member in which an egg can be placed and supported with one end uppermost, and a cup-like upper member which can be fitted with its end wall uppermost to the lower member, said end wall of the upper member having an opening therein through which the upper end of an egg placed in the lower member can extend.
The holder according to the present invention is preferably for holding a boiled egg, and which not only prevents the cooked egg from cooling rapidly, but also particularly simplifies the operation of cutting off the end of the egg by means of a knife.
In practical use, the holder according to the invention provides the advantage that an egg which has been cooked, for example for three minutes in boiling water, is kept hot in the container for a relatively long period, and the fingers which grip the holder are protected from the heat of the egg and the operation of removing the top of the egg by means of a blade is facilitated because the edge of the opening in the bottom of the upper member can guide the blade of the knife and the place at which the shell of the egg is cut cannot be broken outwardly.
An embodiment of the invention will now be described, by way of an example, with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which: Figure 1 shows a view in cross-section of the cup-like lower portion of the holder; Figure 2 shows a view in cross-section of the cup-like upper portion of the holder; Figure 3 shows a plan view of the lower portion shown in Figure 1, and Figure 4 shows a view in cross-section of the holder portions shown in Figures 1 and 2, these being fitted one upon the other and holding an egg.
In its interior, the cup-like lower member 1 of the holder has seating means for the egg to be placed therein, the seating means being in the form of a ring 1' which is disposed on the bottom wall of the lower portion 1. The cup-like upper member 2 of the holder has an end wall 2' provided with an opening 3 through which the upper end of the egg extends. An egg 4 is shown in position in the holder in Figure 4.
The above-described holder has the advantage that the egg 4which has been cooked in boiler water, for example for three minutes, is for the major part enclosed by the holder and it thereby protects the egg from excessively rapid cooling and the fingers of the person who is to eat the egg do not need to come into contact with the hot shell of the egg. The edge of the opening 3 in the wall 2' of the upper member of the holder, through which the top of the egg extends, makes it possible to guide a knife for cutting off the top of the egg and to prevent the place at which the eggshell is cut from undesirably breaking out. The eating of the egg is facilitated by the holder, insofar as the egg does not need to be gripped, while In its hot condition.
1. A holder for an egg, comprising a cup-like lower member in which an egg can be placed and supported with one end uppermost, and a cup-like upper member which can be fitted with its end wall uppermost to the lower member, said end wall of the upper member having an opening therein through which the upper end of an egg placed in the lower member can extend.
2. A holder as claimed in claim 1, in which the opening in the end wall of the upper member is located in the centre of the end wall of the upper member.
3. A holder as claimed in claim 1 or claim 2, in which in its interior the lower member is provided with a seating for supporting the egg.
4. A holder as claimed in claim 3, in which the seating is formed by an annular member provided In the lower member.
5. A holder as claimed in claim 3 or claim 4, in which, when the upper member is placed over the lower member the seating is arranged concentrically with respect to the opening in the end wall of the upper member.
6. A holder as claimed in any of claims 3 to 5, in which the seating is connected to the end wall of the lower member.
7. A holder as claimed in any preceding claim, in which the lower member can be telescopically received in the upper member.
8. A holder as claimed in any preceding claim, in which the bottom wall of the lower member is provided with a plurality of openings.
9. A holder for an egg, substantially as hereinbefore described with reference to the accompanying drawings.

CLAIMS
