Abstract

A new liquid crystal compound has a general formula: <IMAGE> where X is -CH2.CH2- or CH2O <IMAGE> and R is a straight or branched (possibly chiral) alkyl group having up to 15 carbon atoms; and may be obtained by treating the corresponding bromo compounds with cuprous cyanide. The preparation of the intermediate bromo compounds is also described.
