Abstract

A silencer for reducing noise generated in a fluid medium at the suction intake side and/or the pressure output side of a pump through which the fluid medium is passed, particularly of fuel feed pumps, in which a blind- bore-like cavity 8, preferably filled with air, is disposed in a wall region, of a suction or intake chamber and/or of a pressure chamber of the pump and forming a part of the pump construction is closed and sealed by a diaphragm 10 in contact with the fluid medium, that is to say, usually the fuel. The diaphragm can be of circular construction and have an additional interior spring support 12a and be peened-over in the reception pocket. <IMAGE>
