Abstract

A rotary displacement capacitive transducer comprises first and second cylindrical electrodes (1,2) each electrode having inner and outer conducting members (1a, 1b, 2a, 2b) connected together by insulative adhesive (7), and a cylindrical member (3) disposed between the electrodes which in use is rotated to vary the capacitance between the electrodes. The surfaces (1a, 2a) define the capacitance of the transducer. The cylindrical member (3) may be an earthed conductor which by interposition progressively reduces the capacitance between the electrodes, or a dielectric member which progressively increases the capacitance. <IMAGE>
