Abstract

A method of determining nitric acid in (i) a mixture with water or other acids; or (ii) in solid nitrates or mixtures of solid nitrates with other solids after they have been dissolved in water, and nitric acid has been liberated therefrom by the addition of sulphuric acid, comprising reacting the sample to be determined in the form of a solution with a readily nitratable chemical substance, measuring the reaction heat thus evolved, and evaluating the reaction heat measured as a gauge of the amount of nitric acid in the sample. The method is suitable for continuous determination.
