Abstract

A method of preparing a molybdenum additive material for alloying is provided by heating a carbon and molybdenum oxide mixture containing substantial amounts of bismuth impurity in an inert atmosphere to a temperature between 649 DEG C and 871 DEG C for at least one hour then to a temperature of at least 982 DEG C for at least one hour to lower the bismuth content and reduce at least a portion of the molybdenum oxide to molybdenum metal.
