Abstract
A snap disc pressure switch has a thin flexible diaphragm 32 positioned adjacent to the disc 31 to isolate the pressure chamber 19 from the switch chamber 21 and to transmit the pressure forces directly to the surface of the disc 31 which is positioned in a seat 32 and is held therein by the diaphragm 32. The disc seat member 29 is shaped to support the disc 31 against overpressure and to provide a guide for the switch bumper 36. When higher operating pressures are required, two discs are positioned face-to-face in the disc seat 32 and operate at a pressure substantially equal to the sum of the calibration pressures of the discs. In another embodiment, the movable contact arm 37 of the switch is biased closed and normally held in an open position by a spring-biased plunger (86) Fig. 6 (not shown) whereby the maximum stress applied to the movable arm 37 is reduced and fatigue failures of the arm are substantially eliminated. <IMAGE>
