Abstract

A compressor of the sliding-vane eccentric-rotor type discharges a mixture of oil and compressed gas through a delivery port (81) into a portion of a compressed-gas reservoir containing a series of longitudinally-extending flanges (150, 151 and 152) integral with a casing (16) and a flange (156) integral with a stator (60). The flanges promote precipitation of gas-borne oil droplets, the precipitated oil passing through a narrow gap (155) to the sump. The delivery port (81) directs the discharged mixture obliquely against the flange (151) to promote turbulence. The compressed gas and remaining gas-borne oil droplets then pass through a narrow gap between the flange (152) and the stator (60) into a settling chamber (157) in which further oil droplets are precipitated and returned to the sump through a narrow gap (158).
