Abstract

Tricyclo- alpha , beta -unsaturated ketones represented by the formula (I> <IMAGE> wherein an R1-CG2-C-C-CH group is attached to the exo side of a norbornane ring at the 8- or 9-position, R1 and R2 represent a hydrogen atom, or an alkyl or alkenyl group having 1 to 5 carbon atoms, at least one of R1 and R2 being a hydrogen atom, and the dotted and full lines between the carbon atoms at the 3- and 4-positions represent a saturated or ethylenically unsaturated bond possessing odorous characteristics and are useful as odorous ingredients for perfume compositions.
