Abstract

A system for driving the spool supports 15, 17 of a tape recorder at high speed comprises a pulley 30 which is driven by a reversible motor (not shown) and belt 26. The pulley 30 is operatively connected to a clutch pulley 40 by clutch means 40a (30a Figure 5 not shown) only in quick-feed and rewind modes; a clutch lever 50 being operated for this purpose and a pivotal member 34 swings in a direction depending on the direction of rotation of the clutch pulley 40. The member 34 supports a member 35 rotated by the clutch pulley 40, and the member 35 is interposed between the spool supports 15, 17 whereby it can be swung to engage either spool support. The clutch pulley 40, a rotary member 32 and the rotary member 35 are operative only in quick-feed and rewind modes. At normal speed, a pulley 11b drives a flywheel 11 via a pulley 19. <IMAGE>
