Abstract

The invention relates to a connector for joining pipes, particularly of metal, which comprises a socket 17, bed and a pipe having a smooth end 15 for insertion into the socket. A seal and friction ring 1 inside the socket seals the pipe into the socket and prevents accidental withdrawal. The ring comprises retaining elements 4 having serrated internal edges, each retaining element 4 being embedded in the elastomeric sealing material 2 (shown in figure 3 only) of which the ring 1 is composed and axially slidably guided as well as being freely tiltable about an annular bead 19 on the socket 17. Thus, all the serrations 5a - 5d remain in contact with the end 15, irrespective of its diameter (within a given range). <IMAGE>
