Abstract

Liquid, e.g. water, is conducted from a source under pressure, e.g. a main, to a location at which the liquid is exposed to contamination, e.g. a location at which fertilizer is diluted with the liquid. The liquid is conducted by a conduit having a gap 10 which the liquid jumps in the form of a jet and which prevents contaminants from being back-siphoned into the source. An entry port 7 for flowable material, e.g. fertilizer, opens into the conduit directly adjacent to or downstream of an insert 23 providing a restriction downstream of the gap 10. <IMAGE>
