Abstract

Solid particulates, particularly those in the submicron range, are removed from an effluent gas stream S2 by impinging on target particulates which are larger than the submicron contamination particulates and are dispersed in a secondary gas stream A2, which is then introduced into the effluent gas stream at a plurality of locations spaced from the effluent stream axis. The target particulates and the contaminating particulates thereon are then separated from the combined effluent and secondary gas stream S3 by conventional gas cleaning equipment 14 such as a cyclone or bag filter. Figs. 2 to 9 (not shown) illustrate how stream A2 is injected into stream S2 so as to maximize relative velocities of the streams and consequently particulate capture. <IMAGE>
