Abstract

A liquid level indicator, for example a tide gauge, uses a pulsed sonar transmitter 1 and receiver 3, the delay time between transmitting a pulse and receiving its echo reflected from the surface of the liquid is measured by an oscillator 9 which feeds a counter 8. The count in the counter during the delay time is displayed. Oscillator 9 may be temperature-controlled to compensate for ambient temperature changes. <IMAGE>
