Abstract

A pneumatic tyre and wheel rim assembly comprises support means (3) which extends circumferentially around the rim (2) between the bead seats (9) to support the tyre (1) when in a deflated condition, and which is rotatable relative to the rim (2) when the tyre is in a deflated condition, and lubrication means (22) provided to release lubricant to facilitate said relative rotation. The lubrication means (22) comprises a sealed container (24) located in a recess (23) in the support means (3) and having a nipple (27) which ruptures to release lubricant between the radially inner surface of the support means (3) and a confronting running surface (21) on the rim (2) when the support means rotates relative to the rim. As a result frictional resistance to relative rotation between the support means (3) and the rim (2) is substantially reduced whilst undesirable distribution of the lubricant over the inner surface of the tyre (1) which could result in undesirable slippage occurring between the tyre (1) and support means (3) is substantially avoided. <IMAGE>
