Abstract

Aqueous solutions of an electrolyte are thickened by incorporating into the solution particles of a substantially non-ionic cross-linked polymer that swell in the solution substantially without dissolving. Suitable monomers are vinyl pyrrolidone, acrylamide and methacrylamide and cross-linking agents are methylene bisacrylamide, allyl methacrylate, diallyl phthallate and glycol diacrylates. Reactive dye print pastes are thickened using the above compositions.
