Abstract

For printing cheques, sheets of cheque stock on to which data in alpha-numeric form has already been printed, are advanced in a direction perpendicular to the length of each cheque towards a line of printing wheels (7) which carry type faces carrying machine- readable characters. The cheque stock may take the form of sheets containing several cheques, each sheet after registration at front stops (4) being carried in register on a suction conveyor (5) to the printing position. The printing wheels are individually set as required for the printing of the code details of the account holder and bank branch on each cheque, and for the printing of the serial or equivalent number, by respective stepping motors under the control of a computer. <IMAGE>
