Abstract
A discharge control device is in the form of a unitary head assembly having a handle and spring loaded operating lever which can be squeezed against the handle when discharge is required. A locking pin prevents accidental operation and has to be withdrawn before discharge can be effected. The head assembly is adapted to be connected to the screw threaded end of a gas cylinder containing appropriate gas under pressure. A piercing member 60 is driven in a downward direction to break the membrane seal which normally closes the gas cylinder and simultaneously the operating lever moves a valve closure member 36 off a conical seating 34 to allow the pressurised fire extinguishing medium to leave the discharge nozzle. In the event that the contents are only partially required to extinguish a blaze, the operating lever can be released and this immediately allows the valve closure member to seal off the nozzle from the pressurised interior. <IMAGE>
